No, but I knew that would make ya'll look!

I'm gonna build a stock 2.4 this time for the 'stream, mabey this one will last,

Should I leave out the diverters, and run thermostats and and poppet valves on this one?

It still should turn around 6800 (I hope) so I don't know what will be necessary to keep it in the range that it should stay, any suggestions?

Also this block has the two hole poppet set up, I've never run a block like this, so I will have to learn the ins ands outs of that too.

Thanks for any help.

John

I wouldn't use all the cooling mods that the performance motors use, cuz it ain't reely ness...Stock 2.4's did have a cooling problem tho, even in stock form...Use the thermostats, poppit, and I wouldn't even worry about tha devirters if ya don't want, but they won't hurt anything either...BUT, If I wuz U, I would make the 1 mod that will binifit U and be worth the trouble...and that is the drilling of the extra hole and enlargeing of exstisting ones...It's not a machine shop procedure, U kan do it with a hand drill, and it does more for the cooling wher U need it than all the other ones...Heres a pic, if ya need mo info, juss go to BYUBOYZ.com and go to projects, click on "HO 2-FO"...that will go into detail on the drilling...REX:cool:

Now thats one I haven't heard yet!

Makes sense though, what size holes do you put in?

Does it cause water pressure to drop any?

on the holes, and NO it won't cause a drop in water pressure...juss be sure and drill the exhaust cover plate(if 2 piece cover is used and cut out the gaskets where U drill...See, U ain't to old and Ugly ta leern sumpthin new;) ...REX:D

Here is a shot of the holes in the block I'm gonna use, they are already 5/16, but you can see that there is a bridge between two of the holes and two of the holes are so close together that if I drilled a hole between them it would end up being a slot.

What do you think?

Take out tha bridge and drill in between the 2 exsisting holes...Check out a 2.5 block, 3 holes...larger bore, mo heet, need mo cool'in, mo holes!!!!!!!!!...Be sho and drill the back plate and cut out the gasket...REX:cool:

Do you think a die grinder will work or do I need to put in on the mill and cut the bridge out?

Also there have been a few that are telling me that I am crazy to leave this motor basically stock, I'm torn between hoggin out the exhaust chest and porting it or leaving it basically stock, except tighter heads.

I went to BYUBOYZ and read the cherry 2.4 article.

will .075 take a stock 200 head to 150 lbs. or does it vary between heads?

I'm afraid if I leave it stock, I will regret it the first time I race someone this summer, but I want a motor that will last more than 150 hrs.

When U git outrun, U will wish U had pumped it up sum...pump it up, and it breaks, then U will blame it on pumping it up!!!...Cut the exhaust cavity(don'tgo crazy), but being on a lite boat, U kan git away with more cut...Open the piston ports to 7/16th'z" and "D" port them, and if a chrome motor, take .050" off piston and deck block same...Knock off .075 from heads....Steel motor...widen the Fingerports to 7/16ths", raise the Ex to 1.525" and flatten the roof ...Boost port to 2.080...F/P to 2.050...Trans to 2.090...Keep the same angle of these port roofz....Cut rod slots on port feed sides only(3)...This iz all U need to do and still keep the engine reliable...Add a set of wh-20's and it will even liven up more...Replace the 5 peddle reed cages with the new rubber coated ones and it will kick ass off line to around 7500 wit 26" wheel...and around 7200 or so wit a 28chopper...these numbers are on a XTB A-boat, and it's kinna heavy...REX... OH, use anything U want to take out the bridge, I have even center punched the center ov bridge and drilled it out...don't reely matter how, juss az long az it gitz dun...
