:D Was wondering what you guys are running for steering systems pros and cons? Also could you give me an idea of what setback works best on these boats? Sorry i had put this on the misc parts by mistake . Thanks in advance. Geoff.:p

I'm using a Mercury dual ride-guide steering system that works great when adjusted properly & has good feel for whats going on at the engine. I'm running an Offshore 260 (offshores have additional 2" setback) with a 15" midsection on a land and sea jackplate that has about 4 1/2" of setback. A lot depends on the weight & weight distribution of your boat, my setup could probably use another inch or two of setback. I'm getting 102 mph with only one day of testing on this new engine (new to me) & a stock 28 chopper, I'm sure there's more speed to come.

This is a great place to learn about set-up ( The best !! )
I wont say what I think about the V-king set-up ( you've heard it from me already )
Steering is all in the preference ( of course safety being #1 )
The CMC 5.5" plate that you will be getting is all that I used to get the best results ( as a lake monster ) now I did put in the Bob's 2" spacers and the boat was a B#$%# to drive with only me in the boat but was 5 mph faster with a full load. It all depends on the type of boating you want to do . 4-6" is the optimum.
Jeff
PS ...... I bet you are getting a hell of a boat ........ ;) ;)

I use a Morse dual apposed cable and works good but want to try a Sea Star Pro.
On the set back I like as little as possible.I use a Bobs 4 in 1 manual set at 2 1/2'' but my boat is lighter than most.On my production hull I used a CMC hyd that has 5 1/2'' I think.
As far as props I like low rake round ears like a Hoss Triton and just got a DAH SRX to use this year.I like cleavers too, they turn great and run good speed but don't punch as hard or handle weight as well.
:D  Thanks guys, this board is a wealth of knowledge and it helps that we are able to get info from people with boats the same as what you have and learn from other peoples trials and errors.

the reason we have a friend that has a 20" stream .and i find that the steering has a detent rite where you work the wheel when you wide open . it just bothers me . just pickie when it comes to that kind of stuff .works great on his boat. i just would not have it in mine .
there is never any father /son hows faster around here .lol. :D :D we have to hook up ever time we go to the lake . to much junk talked on the bank about how out runs how . what it all boils down to . is how has what prop . that day .love my dad . when i am out front . it pisses me off when he is out front .   . found out long time ago you got to be sneeker than him . when you pull up beside him .;) ;) ;)

That sounds so cool about you and the old man!! I myself lost my father just one year ago and would do anything to have him in the passenger seat tearing up the lake with me. That is great that you and your dad cherish the boat rivalry while obviously having a blast.:D
Cheers. Geoff.

now from the other side!! mike[the son!] has the mtr that i do not but with old age u get some treachery and if he is snoozing he is loosing. what we got is in the 1/4 with my 22 yahama i be about 5 boats quicker and he has to play catchup and he just does not have enough to get it done, about 100 feet past the 1/4 and he comes by me like a BIG train.
yep the rivelry is cool and he has grown up with outboards and racing and i plan on keepin him about one boat length back!!!
we work on our crap all the time and try and help each other get quicker and faster. never be satisfied with what u got as someone will run by u everytime.
just ask him whos his daddy??

I like the manual steering (dual cable merc) and 4-5 inches of setback.
