A Bud of mine had one in the mid 80's with a 200 merc on it. w/28p chopper, it was almost lethal. I honestly do not know how fast it was. We always ran out of prop before getting to top end.....90's easy if you can drive it.

We had one with a 2.4 Formula in about 1980, actually made it through a season and a half before wreckin it. Probably ran mid 90's

Damn near perfect combo right there, IMO. A light V6 on a Vandal.

Whenever I get back to rebuilding ours, it will have a v6. I was thinking a 150 or 200 ProMax.
A few pics grabbed off the web in days past. The yellow one is on the Hydrostream registry, not sure on the white but it probably came from here.
The V6 mercs aren't that much heavier than the OMC V4 we had on it, which is about as heavy as I think you can go. Our rubrail was under the water at the transom, with only a 4" setback. I would think you want either a minimum-setback jackplate (I've designed one which is about an inch thick) or bolted right to the transom. I've been meaning to measure a 15" merc factory midsection and see where that would put the lower unit. Maybe a cut-down one without the extra setback in the clamp would be even better.

Mike, I think the verdict is in! Go for it! That 2.0 should work out great.

The black and whit one in the pics belongs to a friend of mine. It is currently in his back yard wrecked. A hose came off the hydraulic steering at speed. He had to swim to shore with one
arm as his other shoulder was tore up. He is good now and has another boat.
