Hi all, I just got a motor for a 17 ft Glastron bowrider project that I've been trying to get finished. I ended up getting a 2002 Mercury 200 Carb'd. Any input on this engine....I've heard good things so far. While I'm not really looking to mod it, i really wanna make the exhaust loud like how I hear it on all these Actions running around here....how do I go about that? Thanks!

Loud exhaust is not allowed on a Glastron bowrider, but they come stock on an Action. (just kidding).

Jack that baby up prop shaft even with bottom, put on a LWP, install duel cable steering, get a surfacing prop and you will need to do nothing else. Accept learn how to drive. Will be plenty loud and legal.

I like that idea, putting the prop shaft even with the keel. I AM using a bracket with an 18" setback and so far I'm hearing that the cavitation plate should be 1-2" above the keel....would the prop shaft being even with the keel place the motor too high up???

Ok, first make sure you have a solid transom,18"set back will put a lot of leverage on the transom. Prop shaft even (give or take a 1"or 2") is where we all run them, or you ant going fast. Cav plate 1or2 above is a stock set up and will be where you need to run unless you modify the lower unit with a nosecone with low water pickup, or a transom mounted water pickup. You are limited on height with a stock lower unit because of the water intakes, to high no water.

thank you for the info.....now I'm really confused as to what route to take.....I'd imagine that it would be fast enough at just the stock setting but I really like the idea of the low water pickup, nosecone, etc......especially since the boat will be used in the shallow keys waters a lot....how much would need to be spent for a setup like that?
