I know this thread has no business in here BUT I just want the whole natin to know what I feel about UPS.

I ordered parts about a month ago from a User on this Board ( 3.0L 300 heads ).

Now the heads were paid 300$ for the pair plus shipping (50$).

UPS mamaged to charge extra fees ( brokerage fees, Customs Fees and extra shippings handling fees ) for a total of 560$ arrived in Canada.

Now I do not know if this is common practice OR isolated incident BUT from now on, I will INSIST on this item ::

D O N O T S H I P U . P . S .

Agree 100%. Once their tracking system went to hell and they decided it was OK to leave shipments bound for the NW sitting in Indiana for 2-3 extra days to fill up shipping containers I will do everything I can to avoid their "service" . Fedex is cheaper, usually faster and better in almost every way.

Sounds like you had to pay customs fees / taxes which really isnt UPS fault. If you have them USPS you would avoid most of that due to an agreement between USPS and Canadian Post. We ship to Canada almost daily and most of our Canadian customer ask for USPS shipping for that very reason.

:iagree: People selling things to Canadians should know this by now, DO NOT SHIP UPS TO CANADA!

As far as domestically, take your pick, they all have their issues. Fedex tried to charge me $869 to ship a powerhead, then after I paid them, they sent a bill TO MY WORKPLACE. UPS, shipped a lower unit across the country, no problems... Shipped one from sarasota to north of tampa, busted the skeg right off. ugh.

Since we are on the subject of shipping...there seems to be a big difference in duty to the UK and also insurance cost when trucking in the US if the shipment is declared as "Boat parts" vs "Auto parts". I was told that boat parts disappear more often so cost more to insure. Not sure why the duty difference.

Ups makes a fortune on brokerage fees from stuff shipped to Canada, I used my own broker $25 flat rate.you may get charged hst on usps shipments but no brokerage at least.

I have to say that there should be a ''free trade agreement'' between Canada and US. There is other shipping methods that don't charge thismuch for their ''weird services'' it seems that there is a vandetta against Canadian shippings.

I do agree to pay for certains fees but Vaseline is something that I use for other ',intimate''stuff and most of the time I ''Agree'' to these ',intimate''

just had props shipped from florida to Wisconsin, said do not ship ups I Made The Box Shipped it to florida seller put props in box and sent usps they arrived without any issues, you have to properly pack and make sure box will withstand any mayhem . Canadian shipping can be costly ,then try and file a claim on damaged items if box is open for inspection and items moved inside cause customs don't care if its packed like it came in

I want to play ''strasight'' even though my brain was looking in another way for a fraction of time. From a previous post, on another thread, there was also SOOO MANY people complaining about UPS.

I am aware that Canada is not US and vise versa.....but a sweet kiss in one thing, a full unsolicitated rape is another one

Free trade only applies to big corporations, not the little guys. Canada Customs is as greedy as UPS. Bud shipped my lower back to me and customs decided to charge me POST and GET on something I already owned and paid tax on. They biased the tax on insured value instead of the service that was performed.
I spent a lot of time trying to get an answer as to why, anyone that has dealt with government knows how far you get there. Put on hold and transferred till you want to slit your throat.
Have a few things shipped UPS the last few months anď if it is valued under $100.00 no tax or brokerage fees. Over that your paying the tax's.

The UPS truck is parked at the post office depot every day. Not sure which one is carrying packages for the other though.

Glad Dave chimed in. He and i made more calls than you can imagine only to hit a Brick wall. I insured his lower for $1k and thats what they calculated everything on.

I dont use UPS for reasons other that whats being mentioned here. They have damaged more high dollar items than I care to mention. But my final straw with them was when Specboatops (Chris Cox) shipped me his lower to do a stainless steel coating on. When it arrived it looked like two fork trucks had used it as a hockey puck in some warehouse. Lower unit was totally worthless!!! He and i screwed with UPS for a few weeks and the sad part is UPS is self insured which worsens the nightmare.

I tell all my friends and customers PLEASE DO NOT SHIP UPS!!!!!!! If you do and it gets damaged I will not get involved in the claim. If you want, send me the dimensions and weight and i'll e-mail you a fed ex shipping label on my commercial account.

I am sad to read all these comments BUT on the other hand I am sooo glad I did.

In these country ( Canada and US ) there is some pretty nice guys and galls that work hard for their bucks, they want to have pleasure with Boats, accessories, parts and these weekenders never cease to do some work on their Boats to make them prettiers, more attractive, fasters or strongers. We need each others to exchange services, parts etc etc and we need a reliable source of transportation other than our cars, trucs pick-ups to get these items from as far away as east and west US borders.

We should make these comments public beyon their expectations to make them understand we mean business.

The same here also happens with Purolator. Prior to 1998 (about) this was a private company, it became public as a boddy of our Canada Postal service. Ever since this moment, their service was so pittyfull, even more damageable than the one you described broken tv's, destroyed items beyond repair or even re-use. And try to get a settlement for the fun of it, you will encounter the most waist of time of your life.

Two transport Boddy we should avoid : United Parcel Service for cross-borders and respect of customers property.
Purolator.....................for the same reasons.

Thanks for all your inputs.

This isn't a shipping problem, it's a government problem. All because you each live on opposite sides of a "border", an imaginary line drawn on a map which defines an area where a groups of ruling elites holds a monopoly on property ownership, extortion and force.

Actually Chad its both Shipping and Government. If you ship the same item via Fed Ex the receiver only gets charged one fee and thats tax on the item. Ship USPS and they not the Gov of Canada charges you every fee possible and where it goes from there is a mystery.

ALSO!!! Alot of it has to do with how and what is done on the Customs form. One mistake can cost the receiver alot of unnecessary money in fees.
