1978 70hp Evinrude

Am I going crazy? I bought this 70hp motor after only running on the trailer with the motor in the lake. Put in gear and forward and reverse worked fine. Took it home cleaned carbs. and put boat back in the water and the forward was reverse and the reverse was forward. How did this happen. How do I fix it?

man you need to pack that thing up and send it to me everthing i have done the last two months has gone backwards that thing would fit in here good !!!!!!!!!!!! just kidding dont have a clue

don't remember which years but,some lifted s/shaft for forward--some years pushed DOWN for forward-th

Did you get the cables reversed when you did the carb job.:confused:

it backfired on start up on you and was running backwards

It was a new purchase and it was type of gear casting that came on it. I wasn't familar with. Thanks for the help.
