According to their website, they bought the 21 Apache Scout molds. Was that as good a hull as the Challenger?

Bob built a number of different 21/22 Apache mold sets, different generations, in the 80's & 90's. This is just one of the few sets of those molds, and one of the nicer designs.

Welcome to S & F. Tell us more. Which set of molds did you get? Who had them last? Will you be building both the I/O and the O/B deck versions?

How great is this more and more builders coming back, and to Miami. It's hard to beat the classic lines. I wish the best for Defender. Let us not forget that the 22 talon is back and he is a member.

Defender seems to be building a very nice boat which is great to see. They also had Bob S (original owner of Apache) heavily involved as a consultant to the project which is very cool.

Like RobF mentioned, there are several threads on OSO under the Apache and Chief headings about Defender and the 21. Bob S actually helped the owner of Defender with a retooled mold for the Defender boat. The same 21 boat is also being built by Bob S and his Chief brand. Several molds and splashes are in existence. Most of the 21 Apache's you see with this style deck were built by Century boats when Bob S licensed the molds to them. I believe Mark McManus is in the mix here to with the rights to the Apache name. Can always check the HIN to see who built what.

Which set do you have? The Pete & Carlos set? One of the splashwell sets? One of the flat transom sets? So many people have owned different sets of molds over the years, in south florida alone, its hard to keep track, lol. And most all of them Bobby did actually make, believe it or not.

I don't think I have ever heard of a splash of the 22' Velocity. Am I correct? Is that because Steve vigorously pursue anyone who tried, or because no one ever tried?

I wasn't referencing the Velocity. I was inquiring about the 21/22 Apache molds saltfisherboats said he had. But to answer your Velocity 22 question, knowing Steve S. as I do...No one has bothered popping the 22 because: "A" The 22 hull design has never gone out of production...and "B" The design is too obviously unique...and "C" Not as many people as you and I appreciate its unique(and sellable) design...and "D" Mr. Stepp never has had the cheese to persue any type of lawsuit whatsoever(trust me on this one).

Popped? He has one of many sets of Apache 21/22 molds that were produced. All different deck designs. The hull design(s) were all basically the same, but tooled to compliment each Apache deck design. "All" the Apache "hull" designs were taken from "original" designs produced by other manufacturers, as so many other performance boat company's these days, also came from. In many cases, as many as a dozen or more generations of a given hull and/or deck design have been produced, of a given boat, over the years. Hard to define a "popped" boat these days. They have been, and are now, 100% legal to produce. A bill of sale is all that is required, from a boat builder that previously produced them. I wish saltfisherboats nothing but great business going forward.

very interesting. Any built yet or even started? Like to see what type of product your producing. The Defender build was Goddfathered by Bob S himself for Phil V to produce highest quality possible. There's pics of him there the entire build. What boat building experience do you have? Great hull to start with that's for sure
