Etec or 2.5

Should I keep the 2.5 260 or go to a 250 HO ETEC? I have the chance to get a nice deal on a etec is why I ask.

If its a new ETEC your looking at, I would hold off. With a whole new design coming out there should be some great deals on left overs.
The two motors you're considering are apples and oranges though.

Yea I know it's two different motors.. I can't get a sweeter deal than I will get. I won't find a left over for the price of the new one I can buy after the new models come out this weekend.

etec will make it a better ski boat if thats what you are trying to do?

This will probably piss some off but the ETEC would probably be better in every respect except top end. Their grunt and midrange is amazing and the fuel mileage would be much better.

:iagree: If the deal on the E-Tec is that great buy it and then down the road save some $$$ and put a Sporty on it with 1.62 gears and then you'll have every thing mentioned above and top end:cheers: Even with the stock 1.87 gears in the E-Tec lower and the 6K rev limit your still a 90+mph boat with 32-34p props... It all depends on what you want the boat to do.

i made the sporty bolt up to the omc mid
this is my brother(baja) with a stock 300 etec with a 1.62 sporty ran 109 on the limiter... prop slip was high

Yea but this was a special mix of a 500+hour fishing motor plus some crazy hess 87 octane and the first pass with a new prop. :leaving:

Stick the etec on another boat .... Deck boat or something .... Everybody needs a race boat and a cruiser ...... Why do all that swapping out of rigging ...gauges , wire harness , cables .....? Just to go slow and hav to do all that work swapping to a sporty ? ...... Just my opinion .... Might b a deal but swapping all that out .... Buying new props , and all that work time and rigging , could just get another boat to put it on and hav a and b boat .....
