I bought a pontoon boat with an 1979 150 Mercury that doesn't have an reverse lockout switch to hook to the remote trim pump. I put an toggle switch next to the remote control, but I have to remember to turn it on when I back up, then turn it back off when using the trim. Where is the stock switch located on this model? Its not in the Quicksilver remote control, and I cant find one that has a reverse lockout built in. Thanks in advance.

Reverse lock out switch  Or neutral safety switch? The neutral safety switch is located in the shifter housing unless someone dissabled it or removed it.

Most of the small motors have a lever that automaticly engages when you shift that keeps the motor from kicking up while in reverse.
I have never seen anything like that on a motor with trim. Maybe that is what he is talking about.

^ A 150 that doesn't have power trim? Even in 1979? Just asking.

In 1979 the 150 was a V6. I thought he might be talking about the trailer override switch? I think all it does is override the trim limit?

I agree. I'm just taking shots in the dark here. What did you hook the toggle switch to?

Sorry, I meant the solenoid that is on the remote trim pump that stops the motor from rising up when you gas it in reverse.
I think it blocks off a hydraulic passage to lock the motor in place.

The only thing that was on was a MR 'Cruiser.

So your 150 pops up when in reverse?

If I don't energize the reverse lock solenoid on the trim pump the motor will pivot up when gassed in reverse. I think there is a hydraulic bypass valve for if you hit an submerged object the motor can ride over it. Its an early model v6 (5342369) with the through mounting bolt hydraulic fittings and should have an reverse interlock switch in the remote control according to my SELOC manual, page A-46, if it is right. page A-31 shows the reverse lock solenoid.
Here is a picture of the trim pump with the reverse lock solenoid at the bottom. I was looking for an easy way to connect a switch to the motor to energize the reverse lock solenoid when put in reverse.

Interesting...didn't know they made one like that. I'm sure that's why you are getting all the strange answers. You could put a micro switch on the shift linkage that engaged when you shift to reverse. Would probably be hard to find the remote that has that switch as I don't think they made very many.

Thanks, a micro switch on the motor sounds the easiest . Ill just have to fab a bracket, the pump needs rewired anyway. I think everybody and their brother has worked on this motor.
