Broken continuity srap

On an outboard motor, can a broken continuity strap on the midsection cause a tachometer needle to bounce around erratically?

It should not. That straps for cathode protection......
You might have a bad or corroded tacho wire connection

Sorry but I screwed up on my original post.............it is the TRIM NEEDLE, not the tachometer I'm having a problem with.

A bad ground will cause all kinds of diff problems, fix it and see what happens. Good luck.
