I have a 2005, 3 cyl, 60 hp Merc. Took it out for the first time this year and it ran fine----for about 3 hours. After running nicely for 3 hours the engine suddenly seemed to lose power. Thought maybe a plug change would help, but didn't. Checked to see if all plugs were firing at idle and they were. Put the boat back in the water and results were the same. Engine starts and idles fine but will not produce power when attempting to come up on power. Does this engine have a two speed stator? It seems like the engine runs fine up to around 2500 or so rpm's then starts to "break down".

Fuel filter checked?
Does the primer ball go soft when it starts acting up?

checked the primer bulb and also the choke, bulb is hard and primer causes engine to lag even further. Thanks for your thoughts. Rod

The engine performed flawlessly for 3 to 4 hours before breaking down when calling for power. Does this engine have a low and high speed stator

embarrassment!!! I thought about it this week-end, then went down to the boat and checked the air vent on top of the tank. Sure enough, the air vent had screwed itself down and had created a partial air lock in the tank. Tested today and all is well! Rod

And that probably makes you the first TO ADMIT that this week. Definitely not the first to do it. And you wouldn't be the first to run the battery down with the kill switch pulled.
(No Comment on that one.)

Ah..its the little things! I "almost" did the same on my 20 footer. Getting it ready to stuff in the slip. Fired the kicker..(first pull), fired the big OB..(fired right up).
So I just happen as looking over the motor, cowl off and running, see that piece of black electrical tape over the inboard tank vent! Thing is I tape over the vent winter to keep and moisture out. Never a problem, .."UNLESS I FORGET TO TAKE IT OFF SPRING"! Still have to put that plug on the dash where it belongs, like in that "bottom hole in the hull"!
