got a used 2.0L/150hp powerhead. it's installed but not dressed yet, and before i put the switch boxes on, i was wanting to bench test them to make sure they are ok. i have the factory manual and all it basically says is to check that the resistance between a couple of terminals (i forget which ones) is where it should be.
is it really that simple?

Well, OK. What is the procedure to check the boxes off the motor? If there is one. I have a few laying around that need checking also....

I would think testing on a bench off the motor would only show an obvious component failure such as a shorted SCR but not prove the actual fitness of the switchbox . You have low speed and high speed stator windings charging up capacitors that are discharged at the proper moment by the trigger signal . Most capacitors will weaken over time and gradually lose their ability to store a charge . The rapid charge /discharge cycling of the switch box internal components would be hard to simulate on a bench without some sort of stator signal generator .

The only thing that can be bench checked is the bias ciruit. Other wise you need them on the motor and cecked with DVA to be sure.

Nope.. probably going to sell the boat and the motor will eventually find it's way on my Vector. I have another Viper to do for a member here and I have to get on with my moving schedule.
