I am about to purchase a Mariner 2.5 Offshore. I have been trying to search for information on this motor. It is a horn motor, the mid has the open snout on it and a sportmaster lu. The ecu looks original. I am wondering if this years ECU would give run time hours? Also i think this is a nikasil block, does anyone know for sure that it is? last question...is this a 280 or 260? im thinkin 260 but idk for sure.

when was the last time it was refreshed 150 hrs or so is all they do without rering, Nic cylinders, its a 260 after17 years of life im sure it was worked on but maybe not im not sure if hours are recorded im thinking yes but it would not be accurate unless some one cleared it! on a 280 ( Motorola ing ) thinking you cant erase total hours but you can clear it

Depends which Ecu it has. Late 97 it could have the better 849849 Ecu, which does log hours, and rpms. Early 97 it could be the earlier 11350 digital Ecu, which has a chip. Great motors, but a short life between rebuilds as mentioned.
