Ok will be putting engine back together soon.
Last summer it seemed like it was not charging
as well as i think it should?
So i picked up some spare parts (stator, rectifier) and now
i'm getting all the parts ready and i see the new (used)
stator is thinner at what i would say is the windings.
They both have the same # 398-5454A6
What do you think?

Jerry ,

The part number you sited is missing one of the numbers on the end it is a 398 5454A66 , that number is for a 16 amp Hi Performance Mercury stator and is the standard on most all Hi Performance 2.5 motors and works great when is performing up to specks.....

Jerry here are some part #s for mercury V6 stators. I know that different lamination thicknesses are used for different amp stators. Being thicker in the winding area might just be that merc could have more than one vender producing these parts and they aren't exactly the same when molding around the windings.
398-5454 A2, A6, A7, A8, A9, A17, A18, A55, are 9 amp stators.
398-5454 A11, A15, A16, A30, A31, A32, A34, A35, A36, A61, A64, A66, are 16 amp stators. I think the 16 amp stators require a voltage regulator. These #s are from a 2002 Rapair catalog and might not be carved in stone.

I am not sure but I think Jerry is talking about a 2.4, 200 carb motor.

As I found out through e-mail with him..............

Yes 2.4 1985 carb.
This engine has no regulator just a rectifier.
They both have the same part# but one is
thicker just wondering if one is better than
the other?
I also have a laser style inj. that i may try
on this engine will it put out enough amps
for the EFI?
thanks jerry
