We prefer to call it a "boating problem"-addiction just sounds to negative and problems can always be solved. Just buy another boat!!

Quote I have an addition not to fear you are not terminally unique. I think you speak for many of us. I live in 700 ft with a postage stamp yard there is one boat many engines and if I find some free space there will be more. I have rubbermade deck boxes stacked full of parts and more coming. :D

Im curious how it compares to the pulsares you have had.I loved our starflite if it had been a bit stronger splashwell and different color id still have it.We will probably end up with a pulsare open bow sooner or later. What has more room between the starflite and pulsare?

I'm going to pull the powerhead and break it down next week (if time allows) and send it off to Diamond Marine to hone the bad cylinder and check out the rest of the block. Then we'll clean the injectors, check the fuel system for any restrictions and put her back together. With the Torque Master gear case the boat should run 80mph all day long. I may even send out the lower unit to Bobs for a nose cone to eek out another few mph...

That did run good and handled rough water like a charm.

I had a Starliner that I sold to buy a Pulsare BR, the Starliner had a larger interior, the front of the boat is deeper so you sit lower in the liner, and from the windshield back the liner was larger as well the Pulsare has a much wider "dash board" if you will and I am thinking the dimension from the transom to the rear seat is larger on the Pulsare also.

Stuffing a 21' boat into a 20' garage is no easy task with a tandem axle trailer! I had to install a hinged trailer tongue and push the boat in bow first because the rear wheel was hitting a step I have in the back of my garage that the washer and dryer sits on!

It was a struggle, but a garage never looks better than when there's a boat inside!

Productive day....After 12 years of service with its past owners, it's time to give the Pro XB 250 some love. I pulled the Power head off in preparation of sending it to Diamond Marine for some freshening up. From what I've been told, these motors produce about 275hp! I'm anticipating speeds in the 80's when done!

Easy fix is get a bigger garage lol

With the current props I have, a Trophy Plus 27 and a Tempest Plus 26, I anticipate speeds in the upper 70's/low 80's. I think with a Mazco/B-blades/Lightning I may be able to reach mid to upper 80's when light......

Wow, that's moving out!

I talked to Checkmate boats today. Very nice people, the owner/ son Kip was very helpful. I'm on the lookout for a similar boat.
I had no idea that they are built literally about 75 miles from my house right here in Ohio. We both joked that I probably have driven by the place hundreds of times going back and forth to the lake off rte. 4

Pretty cool.

Yup, right there in Bucyrus. Kip is a great guy with a wealth of Checkmate knowledge. His family owned Checkmate for over 40 years til about 5 years ago.

Pretty cool. Now I just have to track down the right one for me.
Starflite with the 250/300 or the Pulsare with the same/similar power.

After frying the #6 piston within 1.5 hours after the 1st rebuild, my Mercury Pro XB250 is back together! Thanks to Diamond Marine for cleaning up the block (twice) and Nick at Nick's Creative Marine for getting the powerhead put back together and on the boat (twice)!! (I'm getting pretty good at pulling this powerhead off myself! lol) The 1st overheated #6 hole was due to a stripped oil gear from the prior owner. (I bought the motor knowing 1 hole was down on compression) The second time the #6 hole overheated I may have cold seized the piston by getting on the throttle too soon before the new piston was allowed to cycle or it may have been a faulty fuel pump...We're taking no chances this time; new fuel pump, new .15 over piston, new head, oil pump bypassed and running premix. I'm hoping to get some break in time next week. If all goes well I'll have this Checkmate Starflite at River Ranch along with my Checkmate 2800SX Outboard!

Block was fine. Diamond marine bored the one hole .15 over.

After a few hours breakin time, Nick ran my Starflite to 78mph turning a Trophy Plus 27 at about 5800 rpm. There definitly room in the setup to get the boat into the 80's! I'll be on the water this sunday at Stuart's Lock Park if the weather is good!!

Finally got a good day on the water with the Starflite. Seeing solid GPS speeds of 76+ with 11.5" of setback turning a Trophy Plus 27 @ about 5700-5800 rpm with the prop shaft dead even with the bottom of the boat and a full tank. I need to raise the motor on the jackplate and change the helm to a Sea Star Pro 2.0 helm. At speeds over 70-75 mph the check valve in the helm is allowing the fluid to pass through and I have to constantly steer right instead of focusing on balancing the boat on the pad. I feel with some more setup (helm, nose cone, raising motor, better prop) the boat will run well into the 80's.

Getting the boat dialed in for River Ranch. In the past week with the help of Nick from Nick's Creative Marine we raised the motor 2 bolt holes on the clamp (I should now be 1.5" above the keel with 11.5" of setback), tapped and plugged the top three holes on the sides of the gearcase), installed a brand new fuel pump in the VST (Nick himself!) and yesterday I swapped out my SeaStar 1.7 helm for a SeaStar Pro 2.0 helm. (the boat was impossible to steer straight at speeds over 75mph with the 1.7 helm). Easter sunday my wife and I decided to to do some sandbar hopping in Jupiter and give the motor some more break in time!

Always liked the 'Vintage' Checkmates....quite a few here in WNY.

BTW....what's going on with the sideways pic's? Seems to be pretty random.
