Any recommendations for a knowledgeable mechanic in the Madison Wi area. I have a melted piston and am looking for someone to rebuild my motor that is experienced with Promax's and is a reasonable distance..........

Thanks,

Craig

Are you going to remove the block from the mid, electronics, and have the motor ready at about short block status and re-assemble everything once you get the short block back repaired and ready to go or do you want to drop off the boat and have someone do the whole thing for you?

Why not just pull the powerhead and ship it out to a very reliable mechanic who is very familiar with those motors? Most of us can walk you thru the process, and then you can learn how everything goes together in the event you need to take apart again later. Only takes a few hours to get the powerhead off and boxed up. Spend a few hundred extra now and potentially save thousands on another rebuild later. Just my opinion....I was in your shoes once and was afraid to tackle the burden of pulling powerheads, but several people on here helped me out. Now I've pulled about 5-6 times and re-installed. After that first one you realize how simple it is. Just need patience, tools, and time. You can save yourself a few hundred bucks in labor by just uninstalling and reinstalling yourself.

You live in Wi. It don't get much better. Find a good Tech that can pull your powerhead and put it back together and set it up for you.

If I did pull the powerhead who would you recommend sending it to and how can I determine if it is rebuildable?? 296978
I already dropped the lower and opened up the heads and this is what I found........

My suggestion is Diamond Marine. You will get your motor back looking very nice and you will know the repair is done right. You can email them and show them the pic and Marty will tell you what to do.
