Hello-

This weekend I noticed that my Port engine temp sensor was always reading 30deg warmer than my Starboard Engine on the SC1000 smart craft gauge. Even when I was flushing the engine out on the hose at home it was still reading 30deg higher. My question is this, what temp sensor is the Smartcraft gauge reading? Is it is cylinder Head Temp or Compressor Temp?

Thanks!

The temp indicated on the gauge is the water (coolant temp).

That's what I thought but I just wanted to make sure.

Thanks!

Your welcome.

I just pulled my book out and as I said the gauge reports the coolant temp, and it looks like from the diagram, the analog sensor is located at the compressor.

OK. Now I am confused. Is it in the Compressor or Cylinder Head.

I know the sc1000 indicates the water temp.

And looking at my diagnostic manual, it shows the analog water temp lead coming from the sensor in the compressor. But I believe the digital info at the PCM is
from the head sensors.

There are 4 temp sensors in the 300xs. 1 is air, 2 are in the head, and 1 at the compressor. The one at the compressor looks different than the rest. It looks like the kind that sits in the head of the 2.5. motors.

I'll see if I can scan in a diagram.

I will check tonight by unplugging the sensors. Thanks!

Like I said, for certain, the sc1000 displays the coolant temp

And
This diagram seems to indicate the analog coolant temp sensor is the same sensor as the compressor (labeled b,c,d).
But this may not be the source of the digital coolant temp info sent to the sc1000

The manual indicates that the reading you get on a DDT is from the sensors in the heads.

So analog coolant temp reads off of compressor sensor and also the overheat alarm info is triggered by this sensor.
DDT temp reads off of head sensor
Smartcraft 1000 reads off of ??

This is probably not very helpful to you. Sorry I couldn't be more specific..

Does it read 30 deg warmer when the motors are off and cold, just key on? Just wondering if a sensor is reading wrong. Also, I recently had to replace my thermostats on my 300xs bc one of them didn't open quite as far. had to put both in boiling water to see the difference. Could not figure out why my motor was running hotter than normal. Also, I was told the sensor on compressor is only an alarm. It does not actually read the temp. But I cannot confirm this.

Not 100% sure but I think with Smartcraft it reads the head sensors and not the compressor sensor.

Just unplugged all three on the engine. It is the head sensors. Thanks everyone for the help.
