Another TNT fan! What a GREAT band! Their last two albums weren't very impressive, but Seven Seas, Tell No Tales, Intuition, and Realized Fantasies all rocked.

I like a pretty wide variety of music, but tend to lean towards hard rock or metal. I'm a product of the 80's.;)

Ratt
Crue
Black and Blue
Lillian Axe
Metallica
Whitesnake
Dokken
Skid Row
Rush
Def Lep
......and so on

More recent bands

Buddy Holly & the Crickets

I'm gonna jump all over the spectrum here on you and it will probably explain alot about my personality.

I like:

Lynyrd Skynyrd
Molly Hatchet
Beastie Boys
Nickelback
Tool (gotta love those f-d up time sigs)
Steely Dan
The Glen Miller Orchestra
Asleep at the Wheel
B.B. King
BSO
The Offspring
Sublime (Kinda dissappointed in the Long Beach Dub All-Stars though)
STP
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Jimi
Iron Maiden

My latest fascination has been with an Italian band, Lacuna Coil. They've got a chick with an angel's voice, the riffs and arrangements are very "world music" sounding. Pretty cool stuff.

I'm not a real big fan of this detuned monotonous knuckle-dragger music that's being called metal these days. I miss guitar solos. I miss guitar players.
I miss Randy Rhoads.

If you twisted my arm and made me pick one band that i'd have to listen too rest of my life, it would be Iron Maiden without hesitation.

You youngsters with your boybands make me laugh. Lest you forget the line begins and ends with the ones that created it to begin with... They sang sumpin about some "Stairway to Heaven" and when the Levy broke, all Hell broke with it!

Mere impressionists are the rest of em,

RA you might want to give your ears a great big TUNE UP  ! Led Zepplin 1, is the BIGGEST blatant RIP OFF (of Jeff Beck's truth) in the history of Rock & Roll  ! Jimmy Page isn't worthy of being Jeff Beck's bass player (which he was) . I speak the REAL TRUTH  ! Scott :D

YEP...my parents bought that for me in 1978...it was a new non-current 76 model...it was my main axe up till about 2 years ago...

She has a lot of miles on it....survived my college days...recently refretted and plays so easy!!

The pickups are weak compared to a strat of course. Some day I will get some hand wound pups...The dynamic vibrato is hard on tuning too...I block it for the most part....but It is untouched and orginal...I kind of like it that way ...neat tone when the pups are opposite phased!!

My 8 yr old daughter is starting to play it!!

That's cool you still have your first guitar ! MAN , I wish I'd kept all the guitars I had in the 70's (I could retire). My first guitar was a Mustang also it was a 65 my parents bought me when I was a little kid in 1969. Your right the pickups were weak & the machine heads were cheap (wouldn't stay in tune) but man when I was 11 I thought it was the baddest guitar on the planet ! hmph, Scott the nerve of you to bag on me for Zepp then post a pic of a freak like Zappa? You MUSTA been drankin... lmao! Dude you comin to the A-boat rally this year or not? It keeps gettin biggern bigger.

Scott, ask Beck (truly great!) who inspired guys like him and Clapton... Yesterday I had lunch at what many legends consider a true GODs place. I live in Jackson, TN which was the hometown of Carl "Blue Suede Shoes" Perkins (rest his soul, I almost died when George Harrison walked into to Mr. Carls funeral, which was being handled by Wynonna Judd and Garth Brooks.). Mr. Carl's daughter Debbie and son-in-law Bart run a restaurant/museum here in town... "Carl Perkins' Suedes". The place is lined with pictures, albums and artifacts that they would DIE for in Cleveland and The Hard Rock Cafe corp. My favorite is a big poster sized picture of "The Million Dollar Quartet" of Sun Records fame. You've all seen this picture on TV at some point in your life. The old black and white pic was taken in the late 50s and features Elvis sittin at the piano with Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash standing around Big E singin. The thing is signed by ALL 4!!! How many of those couldve EVER existed in the first place? I just cringe thinkin about the place goin up in flames one day. Theres no tellin WHAT that things worth, an EASY 6 figs I would say.
Many of the names and bands named on this post certainly are "greats", but guys remember where it ALL began. Down on Union Avenue in Memphis, TN (my birthplace) at Sun Studios in the late 50s. Sam Phillips had as much to do with what we all listen to today as ever did Elvis, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones or ANYONE else. Were it not for MS River delta blues like Howlin Wolf, Robert Johnson and the like, combined with gospel... hell we might all be hummin Tibetian Monk chants!!! Mr. Carl's place also has a signed album cover from his collaberation in the early 80s with Jerry Lee, Roy Orbison and a few others... Class of 55. Mr. Carl TELL IT LIKE IT IS on his song, "I was there when it happend" (I watched Memphis give birth to Rock n Roll).

What u think about it lil guitar come on son,
 RA

Scott Gilmore

Yes, it's true Beck, Clapton & Page (who all grew up within 6 miles of each other) worshiped all the early rockers & loved to listen to Buddy Holly,Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Carl Perkins & Beck's ALL TIME idol "gallupin" Cliff Gallup . Sometime around the late 60's Jeff Beck did some recording @ Sun Studios, but as far as I can remember nothing ever materialized out of it . But I do remember he was thrilled & honored just to record at those hallowed grounds. As for ZAPPA , I agree he's a FREAK & also one of the greatest most intelligent artists Rock will ever see (not to mention a KILLER guitarist) !!

Scott Gilmore
03-01-2003, 07:54 PM
I see Cream on some lists . I think Cream is the GREATEST trio in Rock & Roll history (maybe the best band ever). BUT, it really SUCKS Clapton seems to get all the credit for Cream. The leader (writer/singer/musician) of the band was JACK BRUCE. Don't get me wrong, I think Clapton is ok (only until around 1970), but he's probably the MOST OVER RATED "guitar god" EVER !! Scott :D

I tend to like groups with strong vocals (especially harmonies).

Crosby Still & Nash
Little River Band
Eagles

I play guitar badly and have learned that even the best guitar players can be emulated. I have seen really talented cover bands do unbelievable things.

Of course, writing those notes is another thing all together. The more I learn about music the less impressed I am with playing instruments than I am with writing and singing (not that I'll ever be able to do either). Altogether there are too many bands and songs that I love to list. I just enjoy listening to and playing music.
