Anyone have good experience with sound, quality, and durable 6x9s for the boat. The previous owner had 6x9 so I want to keep the same holes.

Thanks for any advise

I bought a pair of infinity 6x9 3 ways and their build quality/durability is amazing. They sound great also, but would probably be better with some sound deadening behind them. Can't say for sure they would hold up in a marine application but my guess is they would be fine.

I had two pair of Bazooka 6x9 3 way speakers in my concept looked great, durable, sounded fantastic and didn't kill my wallet.

I've been into stereo equipment for a long time, although I haven't really followed the technology advancements in the last 5-7 years. Last year I auditioned a set of Hertz Energy series speakers. Absolutely blew me away. Extremely good SQ and SPL...and very reasonably priced. I'd recommend that you find a local shop that sells them and listen to a set before you make a choice. Compare to others powered by the same source/amp at the same volume level...they are very efficient as well.

The speakers are only as good as the mounting baffle.

Thanks for the help. I was looking at those Infinity speakers so I really liked the positive post 1badaction. Still looking around so keep them coming if you got any info, even ones to stay away from. thanks:D

I managed a few different Mickey Shorr stores in Michigan, the last being in Bay City right on Lake Huron. The things to look for in a good quality speaker that is capable of surviving in a marine application is: 1: Polypropylene cone, no compress paper or Kevlar. 2. Butyl rubber surround, can't be foam. 3. For sound quality look for silk dome tweeters.

I always sold Polk Audio DB series for boat customers because of their sound and it was really easy to persuade them because it said Marine Certified on the box. They actually go through some stringent weather testing unlike other brands that just sell for automotive. In my personal boat I have Alpine Type S 6x9 because when I was working there the pair cost me all of maybe $20 and they met all of the requirements I listed. Biggest thing with sound quality is going to be power. I have mine on a 2 channel RDS amp and they will blow away boats with double or triple the number of speakers.

Just installed a set of Polk DXi691's in my tunnel boat with wedge boxes. So far I've been very impressed and they didnt break the bank. They are marine certified as well. So far I'm only running them off of the head unit (JBL prv170) but even still sound great. Would definitely recommend looking into them.300573
