Hey,
My insurance company says they are having troubles insuring my 1995 Cee Bee Avenger 20', because it does not have a Transport Canada Capacity label on it. The label shows number of passengers and Max HP allowed on a boat. This is a California boat from the 90's, there was no label on it then. I have a Merc 200 xRi, and they want to know if its rated for that HP. Does anyone have information on what it is rated for?
Thanks in Advance,
Ralph

Transport Canada has a guideline on calculating maximum horsepower for a given boat based on beam, freeboard, length, hull style, etc. It is not geared to performance boats and will arrive at a number far lower than what you would want. There's a booklet on their website you can download to explain it. You submit it to them (and If I recall correctly) they will issue you a capacity sticker. If you can get acceptable insurance without doing this I suggest avoid it. Not sure what advice Jason (Himagain) gave you but I'd advise following it - he's the expert.

Its 20' long shouldn't need it, wasn't till mid to late 2000 that you needed HP rating on 20' outboards. I have used Co-op for years they don't care about HP, have had claims and they were great.

Thanks for the information guys, I have been messaging Jason, back and forth, and he has been helpful. I suspected that I didn't want to go to Transport Canada for their "advice", as I would likely have to put a 9.9hp on my boat.....
