Anyone here around when Mercury decided to restrict one side of the reed blocks on the 1982ish-1988 L6 115's?

Many including myself theorize that they are trying to feed the ODD cylinders a bit free'r because the mix has to fight gravity above the carb to get to that cylinder. (1,3,5) Trying to even the playing field so to say on all 6 cylinders. Gravity assists to some extent the fuel mix to (2,4,6) and looks to be restricted a bit during this time period. This is the same time they were using the back draft carburetors and trying to economize them as much as possible. Running on the ragged edge of economy must have meant getting all cylinders even for proper jetting.

If anyone has an inside story Id love to hear it. Before these they ran 10x10 reed blocks going back to 1968 I believe with several advancements along the way.
