2.5 280's with top pinned pistons

Did any 280's come from the factory with top pinned pistons?

I'm looking at buying an 2001 model. The seller didn't know and wasn't in a position to pull a head and look.

I was told it is completely stock with a CON box.

My 01 had side pins,but later, merc switched to top pin.Not sure what year though.

I believe they started to top pinned the pistons somewhere in 2002. But for sure all 2003 and later are top pinned from factory.

Some 2001 had them but a few 2002 had side pins must have some laying around and put them in the safe thing is to pop the head and check

If it's all stock (CON) and hasn't been turned high that's not a bad thing either. Is he the original owner and has it ever been torn apart? What are the hours on it? I'd be asking a few more questions before making a decision.
