Yep that's me! GREAT time, great weather, great people, and GREAT rigs! Some of the nicest restored boats ever. Kenny, your Cobra is just flat-out perfect. Love it.

John, did you get to run at all with the inline powered Ally, just curious how they matched up.
Thanks for sharing the pics, very cool stuff right there.

Yes, we did. He got by me on the 3rd lap when it got rough. There was no way this guy could keep up with a 30yr old in that water!

Ken, Great pictures - great being there with you....till next time.
I think we had 12 or 13 outboards registered. They actually ran two heats of V-bottoms and one of tunnels.
Great time - So glad to see everyone again.

Wow! I had no idea.
Last I heard of the classic boats it was more of a show only deal and very little, if any racing actually happening.
I have to be there next year.

My brain thinks I'm still as fast as anyone (in a boat, on a bike etc) but common sense is now interjecting how much it will hurt, and how long it will take to heal if I'm wrong :)
Recently I've been toying w/the idea of getting into something to satisfy my angst/need......
Stumbled on a killer moto cross track mins from the house. The real deal and long. It looked very attractive until I saw their tally board for fastest lap times.
Being the competitive person I am, instantly common sense showed me a very defined picture of me in a heap after missing the triple jump ;)
And it will be on a weekday afternoon w/no one there to shovel me into the squad :)
Sucks getting old.

[Reminds me of something my 20 plus year old grand son told me. Back in his teens he was a very successful BMX racer, and he said he couldn't face getting beat by a teenager, they've all become that much better!!

Besides the fact that despite all the prep work, some testing, drivers' meeting, safety gear, etc.--it's not a race, it's an exhibition. I would love to go balls out into each corner for 5, 10, whatever laps, but as stokernick wrote, common sense must rule--especially when you consider that accidents can contribute to the possibility that we might not get to do this anymore. I'm sure APBA's insurance carrier remembers all too keenly the two fellows who perished a couple years ago at this very same event.

JWTjr, can you give us an idea of straightaway speeds for the v-hulls?

JWTjr, it appears that you are running a lot of engine height. How high are you running?

we try to reiterate this every June at the ROMPS, but it still falls on deaf ears for some!

Yep, me too.

The problem is that people can really be hurt or killed. The APBA events have rescue teams and insurance, but that does not mean that older racers and boats should run "ten tenth's". We have had at least 3 fatalities in Vintage so we were forced to slow it down...not crawl, but put on a nice show for the spectators and live to enjoy the parties and BS'ing in the pits. This is about getting together with old friends...and putting historic boats out for all to see and enjoy...not trying to restore faded "glory days". i am not sure if the "Romp" is insured. I hope so, because , if not, all liability falls on the organizers and sponsors.
