So I drained my lower today to find metal and water. I have a spare with the wrong shaft and a beat up case. I want to use my good case and shaft. Do I use the shims that come from the gear set or the shims that were in the case I'm going to use ? Or do I have to shim as a new unit and check the gear mesh. Thanx guys for any info

use the shims that are with the gears your going to use but i would consider it a new start over to be safe:iagree: its not that big a deal to check lash and pinion height from scratch compared to buying more guts:cheers:

I always found shims were for case machining differences, most the time just changing gears the shims are close, change the case and things are way different.

Dave you are correct i had a brain fart  i know that but wrote some else, but check it any way its no big deal on the pinion height its a easy fix the forward gear lash is another story ive found very few within tolerance
