1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the I6

I tow with a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the inline 6 cylender. There are two boats that I tow, one of them is a 10 foot runabout that with the trailer and motor it weighs about 1000 pounds. It pulls this effortlessly. The other is 2 Yamaha Yet Skis that weigh about 2000 pounds. The Jeep gets significantly worse gas mileage (I have a digital display that tells the gas mileage) and I notice a decrease in performance. On humid days it is especially bad, I wouldnt want to tow anything that weighs more than about 4000 to 4500 pounds a very long distance.

Do you take it out of Overdrive when towing? Towing in O/D will kill your gasmileage and tear up the O/D on the transmission. Those loads should be no problem for a 4.0 Jeep. It may be time for a good tune.
