First off I would like to start by introducing myself. My name is George Gann, sales manger,
at Specialty Motor Sales of New Smyrna Beach, Florida 32168.

I previously listed our boat, personally owed by James Mills(owner at Specialty Motor Sales),
with some inaccuracies. This was done due to my lack of personal knowledge on the boat.

I am now re-listing it with all information from the file which we have receipts for everything.
I am inviting everyone to please post to this thread and help guide me with any questions or
corrections. This is a great boat and a steal at $13,500.

Year is 1990 Length is 21'. These engines were 2.4L Mercury Bridgeports. However
we have receipts for over $14,000 worth of work perform by John at John's Marine Service
in Traverse City, MI (231)922-7123. The powerheads were replaced with 2.5L 250HP carb each.
The powerheads alone were $4599 each!

If need be we can fax any and all receipts. Call James with any questions (563)663-3255.

The first thread I thought someone made mention of the transom having cracks, can you expand on that, and show pics of the transom from the outside as well as the inside. If there are no issues, and motors look good, your price is fair.

Here are some more pictures. The owner of the Eliminator is James Mills (563)663-3255, if we do not respond to the
thread in a timely manner, please feel free to call James.

The reason I asked for the pics is Mercury did not make a 2.5 250 hp carb motor. Turns out these are not 2.5 motors but 2.4 instead.

Defiantly 2.4 and not bridgeports.

In our ad above it says "we have receipts for over $14,000 worth of work perform by John at John's Marine Service
in Traverse City, MI (231)922-7123. The powerheads were replaced with 2.5L 250HP carb each.
The powerheads alone were $4599 each!"

Hope this clears up any confusion, thanks

Your still confused........ Mercury did not make a 2.5 250 hp carb motor !!!!!!

The powerheads were replaced with 2.5L 250HP carb each.

They may be replaced but not with 2.5 powerheads. The powerheads on your boat are 2.4, not 2.5.

I just got off the line with John at John's Marine. I don't think I'm out of line here
when I tell you that John has superior knowledge on these engines, and engines in general.

John said to me "These are 2.5Ls so when he replace the powerheads it made sense to
go to the 2.5's because the drive shafts matched the splines" and he said please direct
any technical question to him at (231)922-7123.

I welcome to you take 5 minutes, place a call to John and I feel it will for sure clear up
any confusion.

Wow. Originally you stated you replaced 2.4 powerheads with 2.5 powerheads. According to the pics you posted they are 2.4 powerheads, not 2.5. If John will use his superior knowledge and look at the pics you posted he will then inform you they are not 2.5 powerheads but in fact 2.4 powerheads. 2.4 and 2.5 powerheads look very little alike. I am not trying to bust your balls but in the initial post you asked for clarification and that is what I am trying to give you. And for you, or John's information, splines are the same on a 2.4 or 2.5 powerheads. Good luck. You or John can call me if you are still confused.

Again, I'm not attempting to debate general engine knowledge with you. When I made the
comment concerning John I was simply stating that he is the guy who did the engine work.
According to John you would not be able to ascertain 2.4 vs 2.5 from a photo.

Sir, I am just trying to help you. You may need a better mechanic.

Not busting balls here, but if John cannot tell the difference between a 2.4 and A 2.5 from pictures of the port side of a motor, he has no credibility with me. It is a 2.4 and that's it plain and simple.

I have personally seen close up pictures of these motors... They are without a dout 2.4's!
If you had 2.5s before you might wanna go check your mechanics personal boat cuz, you have 2.4 carberated fishin motors... There worth about 1500 each if in good shape...

And I am 1000% sure they are 2.4s... No dought about it at all...period!

Didn't Merc make a 2.5 carb 245 HP motor. It became 260 HP when it went EFI?

Additional photos need to be hosted off-site. I didn't get to see them, but I assume they showed black painted 2.4 carb powerheads, which are likely 200hp consumer motors.

Love those Bridgeport cowls, though.

My second photo is a 245 2.5 Carb motor. His photos were of a 2.4 Carb Black block like my first photo.

Give it some time, this thread will be deleted, and a new one pop up with different info.

As Rock pointed out, just get the facts of what you are selling straight FIRST, you never did reply to my questios as to the transom and it's condition of it..............A bad transom = no boat sale.................. sorry, unless you take into account the money it takes to repair properly. I can see how it could crack running twins if it was not produced to run twins.........

hey everyone. George here with Specialty Motors. I'm not ignoring posts on here. This boat is just one of 40 items on

If you can be patient until then I think we will get anything questions resolved. Thank you.

It is possible that the powerhead pics posted by the seller are old pics taken before the powerhead upgrade and he just doesn`t know that. If somebody is interested they should call the mechanic listed.

I personally saw the boat last summer in Traverse City, MI. They are 2.4 fishin motors.

Were there transom issues with the boat?? The previous listing for this boat on here, ( which has been deleted), someone mentioned the transom needed some serious attention or something to that affect.

I have no dog in this fight however I have communicated with George and this is what I know for sure. He does in fact have a bill from John's Marine to the tune of $14,000 plus. The invoice had 2.4 covered by 2.5 so I don't know who made that correction. Could have been the original author or someone down the road, who knows. The man was sold 2 powerheads at $4599 each plus a $650 core charge. He was billed for disassmble and inspection of all parts. He was billed for 2 complete overhaul gasket sets. Those last 3 sentences make absolutely zero sense together as there would be no need to disassemble and inspect every part if they needed to both be replaced and if they were replaced, why the overhaul gasket sets. There seemed to be many inconsistencies which makes it hard to discern what actually transpired.
There was a comment earlier about it being sold by someone that is not real familiar with boats and I think that is the case. I told him that f he wanted to sell the boat on this site he needed to show close-ups of any and all defects. Make sure he knew what horsepower the powerheads really are cuz honestly who replaces Bridgeports with fishin powerheads. Not a performance boater. The buyer should know these things. I also pointed out to him that anyone buying from this site will most likely know more about the boat than he does so be as honest as possible. Also do not know if the powerheads are new from Mercury or maybe even Blackturds. Lots of questions. Beautiful boat.

Ok, I wrote about the previous transom issue on the other thread that got deleted.

Like Rock, I have no dog in this fight. I saw and inspected this boat last summer in person, first hand.

The powerheads looked practically new. You could tell that they had very low hours. The lower units were in good shape and the props were in pretty good shape too. A few nicks and dings, nothing major. The interior and gel on the boat were good. There were a few scuffs but good shape for a 24 year old boat.

The transom is JUNK. Behind that "wave deflector" for the backseat is the riggin tubes, and just below those tubes is a vinyl type snap to conceal rigging. Once I unsnapped that, there was a very large crack that ran most of the width of the transom. It was severe and my friend and I joked that if you throttled it hard out of the hole, it would probably detach the motors!

That said, if you are competent with fiberglass repair, the price is fairly close to where it should be for the rig in my opinion.
