That is not a SCI motor or a NXT drive. SCI motors are supercharged.

We ran those motors in our 32' Race Skater. They are 8.2 liter, 502 ci, 700 hp, mechanical valves in them, Kinsler fuel injection, race fuel only motor, etc. They were a legal race motor from Mercury at the time. The down fall to them are high maintenance, having to adjust the valves all the time, the cost of race fuel and etc. The motors do not start real easy with out being squirted with a little fuel first. We turned them about 6000 RPM. Not a high torque motor, but when up in the RPM's they run good. If someone has changed them over to pump gas the horsepower would drop to about 625 hp or lower and would have had to change the heads to a lower compression.

The 502 is not easy to get over 1000 hp on pump gas or race fuel, especially without a blower or turbo. The 502 is very expensive to build over 1000 hp. You will spend over $20,000+ to do this and will need a power adder.

It is common to see these motors taking out of old race boats and put into boats like yours to make them a turn key package and sellable.

An American Offshore to run the speeds you are talking takes over 1000 hp and a darn good drive to handle it. The drive you have on will blow the top gear cap off it with one good hard re-entry of the drive. It takes better than stock Bravo drive to handle this kind of power.

Not trying to bust your bubble, just trying inform you of what you may have. Todd

I would suggest with as little as you know about the boat, engine and drive. You should find a hi performance person or shop in your area that can sort out all the unknowns, go through the whole boat for you. You should also, take that person or someone with experience out with you for the first time. Just please be careful.

If it is stock from Mercury it is not 1000hp. No one is going to be able to tell you the horsepower without opening up the motor or running it on a dyno. I am very familiar with the AO boats. I personally never owned one, but serviced and rode in a couple in Ohio before. The faster one was a AO NSX 2600 with a 1000 hp twin turbo motor and an Imco drive. That boat would run around 120-122 mph range. I always felt it was a little heavy, but well built.

You can only truly know your engine horsepower from having it dyno'd.

What is going to help sell this boat is:

1. Someone to pull the valve covers, check the valves for any damage and run the valves (adjust them.)
2. Do a cylinder leak down test.
3. Pull a cylinder compression test to see what kind of fuel it needs to have run in it.
4. Service the engine, change the oil, filters, spark plugs, check timing, belts, etc
5. Have the drive serviced and checked. Have the Marina you take it to tell you the ratio of the drive, because most owners are going to want to know. It is probably a 1.50.
6. Find out the pitch of the prop, make and it's condition.
7. Run the boat on a water hose and check everything in the boat.

This is a small list of the minimum things that should be done before it goes to the water. I am sure a professional mechanic will do more. Preventative maintenance is cheaper than damage parts for these motors and drives.

I would post a copy of the receipt up here on the site for us to see. Might be able to give you more input. Make sure the shop that did the works name is available for to review.

Info on motor 900 + HP from mercury in box. Has 3 hr on it and put away. Ran on water hose 3 years ago ran good. Runs on 110 octane fuel only! Motor was 24K installed. Boat is in good shape but has faded paint.

No trades but that's a good looking boat!
