Maybe this is old hat for some of you guys but I thought it was rather wicked how this all came about. A buddy of mine doesn't make it back to weigh-in at our tournament because he looses his alternater belt on his 1996 3.0L 225 EFI. He has no more juice on his cranking battery so he jumps the motor off his trolling battery........set up at 24V (ouch). He makes several cranking attempts and manages to make it back to the ramp. Later in the week he replaces the belt and goes back to the lake. Won't run past 45mph. Motor is now toast. The ECU leaned out some of his cylinders due to the ECU getting a dose of 24V and messing up the programing sending foul instructions to his motor! A fried motor that started with a broken belt! Wow!

kevin , sorry to hear about your friends loss. i hope there is a warranty (LOL) not that it would cover it. he is going to have to get both the ignition and fuel ecus when his motor is repaired.i hope he doesnt have to replace the high pressure fuel pump as well. you might want to remind him to keep an extra belt in the boat along with a voltage guage in the dash.

My 2 cents, I think the lean out is more related to less battery voltage, fuel pump runs slower, fuel pressure and volume drop off! Bing-bang-boom! When I worked on Porsches the instructors said most ECU's have built a in voltage regulator to keep hi voltages from frying them. But not sure how high!
