I have a 14 Ft Lee craft v hull boat that was made for the bay, river, and creeks. The guy who builds the boats to this day has one with a 6" jack plate and a modified 40hp tiller motor and runs 51mph on the gps, but I can't get ahold of him to see what prop he is running. I have the same boat with a 6" rapid jackplate from hydrodynamics and a 40hp tiller, but I need info or opinons on what prop I should run a chopper or a cleaver.

I've got a custom made aluminum boat with a 40 merc on it doing 45 with a 16p clever style prop but when my cousin owned the boat his best was 52 with a 22p chopper...

I have a 16 foot 44 In wide 1/8 sides 3/16 botom crawfish skiff with a ported 40 3 cylernder I run 56 mph 10 set back I'm runing a power tech 17 p pitch max to a 19 heavy cup. I used to do 42 mph . U should check out boat racing facts. Com that's where all the 3 holer nobamahs hang out in the smack talk section. That's where I learn to haul a$$ n stead of crawfish. http://youtu.be/2VVf5uoRVqY

6100 I put a tiny tac on . If I coned lower unit n used a shaved fly wheel I should gain more speed but I just had did it yet. It's funny when the local bass fisherman try to pass me with they old ladies n I make like an arm wrestling arm n roll out on them . I out run the 115hps on bass boats n 150s on flat duck boat style boats . It's all in set up n porting make dat ting breeeth, you.

do u have a 2 , 3, 4 cylernder ?

I think there is a et in that size hub. I seem to remember something about 40 or 60 horse circle and drag boats.

I know ronhill makes custum props for the racers in the 13 spline . The bigger the diameter props run faster on my boat . I tried a 10 3/8 18 p chopper ran 45 mph had to run prop shaft 3 inches lower than I'm at now to get it to bite. I never tried a cleaver. I know the power tech Yamaha props r workin well from what I read on others set ups . Every kind of boat likes different props.

I have a 15ft super v with a 40 merc that's had some work done to it with a 16p prop it runs 49 mph but pulling almost 7000rpms I was hoping to get mid 50s still trying to find a prop and suggestions on how I can get a few more mphs

Raise motor till your prop blows out then drop it half inch till it bites then u at your max height with that stock prop.put at least 10 inches ofset back n try a bigger diamiter prop .too..Try beating your 16 p to an 18 with more cup at your nearest prop doctor an thin blades cutt water easier but not logs n Mudd lol. Ronhill makes custom props for built 40 3 cylernders with 60 carbs cut tuner reeds n porting all plays a roll on what prop is best. O an shaved fly wheel. Ps day make nitrous injection kits too. Lol. Good luck.

I use to have a Mariner 40hp 2 cylinder on a 4" jackplate running a PowerTech that had been worked by a local prop guy. Lol had a ball smoking a lot of the midrange bass boats wit there 85 to 115 hp motors. If memory serves me right it was a 15p with a lot of cupping. No problem running straight but lol FORGET about turning that boat. LMAO I had LOTS of pucker power in that tinny. Boat was a 1440 Duracraft I had fixed up for fishing the rivers and skinny water. Best I seen was 52 with a handheld GPS. No idea what kinda rpms I was turning.

Yea I have 50 carbs with a cut exhaust and a lil porting done but other motor work done also does the 60 carbs make that big of difference I have a set of 70 carbs too. Which would I see the more mph with I have a prop I just got back from the prop shop but haven't got to run yet

U can order 75 jets and un screw the jets out of your 50 carb. They like 3 dollars a piece . All depends on how much porting has Ben dun . Keep a good eye on your plugs that will tell if u to rich r lean. 50 n 60 carbs same but not 40 n 70 . 70 carb I herd r made for a bigger displacement block so it allows too much air for the 40 60 hp 3 cylinder block.
Hope that helps . Good luck

Sorry, almost forgot about this thread. I ended up running a Ron Hill 12x18 cleaver a buddy of mine had for his 50hp Tohatsu and only got 38mph. It sure lifted the boat out of the water. My boat is getting some work done to it now. The floor was rotten and water logged and there was two hooks in the pad that are going to be removed. Going to run it the way its been rigged with my 40hp Johnson and see if I pick up any mph. I just bought a tiny tach so I can see what my rpms will be at so I can make a prop adjustment if needed.

Also the motor I'm currently running only has tilt assist so I cant trim the motor out all the way "only how much I can get from pushing down on the tiller after I'm on plane" so I just bought a 98 Johnson 40hp with tilt & trim, so I'm hoping after I run it with the current setup to see if I pick up any mph from the hull change that adding this motor will trim will help me get a higher mph.

Both motors are identical besides the one I have on the boat now is all manual and the new one is all electric, but is there any reason the new motor has 150psi and my old motor has only 130psi in each cylinder? Wouldthat mean is has more power possibly?

Maybe the lower compression motor has more hours on it. More compression definitely gets out the hole faster.

Well of all is said been there and done that, and no offence. We have a couple of boats( fiberglass) 13'6" with a 8" pad with a 50 and a 60 hp merc. The 50 merc is on a falcon ss with a 3" offset and a 5" cmc jack plate with 22 pitch chopper prop , it runs 68 mph. The other boat is a fasrcraft with a 60 merc , chris carson reeds, no set back with a 6" bobs jakplate and 22 x 12 cleaver prop running 84 mph.. the falcon ss is a tiller handle boat, the fastcraft is a steering wheel and seat almost on the transome. Will try to post plctures tomorrow.
