Cool sounding engine I think. Reminds me of a motorcycle engine. With the engine being a 1.6L turbo it's the same displacement as some motorcycle engines.
Go to UTube there are some cool videos on the engines.

I'm kind of an exhaust-note junkie. It was the shriek of the v10's and v12's that got my attention while flipping thru the channels early one Sunday morning in 1994. Absolutely made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. I dont think these have that unique sound that only F1 cars had.
They sound ok to me but i'll miss the NA motors

Oh well I like the way they sound. I really didn't care for the recent V8's. LOVE the V12's & V10's.
Shouldn't 22 screaming turbo V6's sound like 11 screaming turbo V12's? :D

There are some odd looking front ends on cars this year, like the Caterham and Lotus. The Ferrari nose needs to be redesigned...unless it works really well.

I used to go to the Montreal F1 every year (that town knows how to PARTY), they lost me a few years ago.
That aside, the sound they make in real life is unreal. There is a large part that you cannot hear on tv, it is LOUD. Fast and quick is an understatement. Makes Indy, cart, ihl, look like child's toys.

The starts at Indy under the overhang of the main grandstands. Completely overwhelming.

I love F1 but I hate it too........why do they have to change engine & chasis rules every year? It's like they're trying their best to screw up a good thing. Everything is about efficiency now.....race cars are supposed to be dirty ozone killing cancer causing monsters.:reddevil:

The change in engine format is to attract more car manufacturers back into F1. Car manufacturers aren't interested in developing V8's so F1 didn't interest them. So F1 changed the engine format to 1.6L turbo V6's with hybrid output twice what it was. Because of this Honda will be re-entering F1 next year. Not sure how many more manufacturers are interested.
F1 is too expensive for it to survive without manufactures long term. So they made changes to attract more manufacturers. Right now there are 11 teams and only three different engine manufacturers.

At the 24hrs of Daytona in the top class, Prototype, Ford is running the EcoBoost V6's; no more Nascar derived Windsor small blocks.

Soooooooooooooo, after a winter of waiting................., the anticipation of the effects of the new turbo V-6's, harder tires, smaller wings.............., driver/team changes........, I just watched practice and qualifying for Austrailias first race of the season.

Yes the exhaust note is way different than last yr and no one likes it but.......,listen to the drivers. More power and torque.
There was very little dry track running to compare to last yr but the bit they did get was 4 1/2 seconds slower this year.
This is F-1 though and they have figured out EVERY rule in the past and gone faster.
The cars are way more fun to watch now as the drivers struggle w/the increased torque out of the corners. Lots of black marks and lots of 4 wheel drifts.
Remember too, last yr was 2.4 liters and this yr is 1.6. In other words, 100 cu.in's :o

A great side bar is Red Bulls continuing struggles and even more so with Sebastian V. He wasn't even fast enough to advance into the 3rd and final qualifying session! When the crowd realized this they went nuts!
Even better, his new team (Australian) mate, Daniel Ricciardo, qualified 2nd in the same car :) Wonder how Seb's head feels right about now.

Also, almost all of qualifying was done in the rain. For the F-1 nay sayers, show me this excitement anywhere else. The top 3 put on an absolute driving exhibition in the 3rd and final, wet 10 minute qualifying session.

I started out hating the new exhaust sound (also regulated down from last yrs 18K to I think 14 this yr) but at the end of qualifying I think I'm coming around.
My guess is by the 2nd or 3rd race they'll be faster than last yrs times.

4th place qualifyer is rookie Kevin Magnussen (Mclaron) (best ever rookie start since Lewis Hamiltons) who's team mate Jenson Button also failed to make the final qualifying session. Kevins father is past F-1 driver Jan M. and is driving in the Sebring 12 hr right now.
David H. said that race finishes at 10:00 tonight and w/the time change they are having a F-1 race watching party in the pits tonight at Sebring :)

What sucked for all the teams is the tightly controlled minimal pre-season testing to sort all the new rules. They've also reduced the amount of fuel allowed per race and doubled the amount of power from the auxiliary electric motor systems.
They're saying that under braking the cars are a PIA because of how hard the power regeneration system hits let alone controlling boost.
David Hobbs was quoted as saying, "way less car and way more driver this year".

The ironic part to me is, they say they are trying to limit expenses (and equalize the lesser teams) to the teams by limiting testing time etc but I wonder what the engine change cost them???
