Bare metal, use some Dupont vari-prime etching zinc primer and then Imron topcoat. It will stick well and give good corrosion protection.

If you want to go fast: no paint or just some spray can outboard primer.

:iagree: PREP PREP PREP. ESPECIALLY in this application. You can throw almost any name brand catalyzed single stage paint on it, the prep is what keeps the paint from peeling off or chipping. Imron is one of the most durable, but still isn't going to last if the paint prep isn't correct.

exactly what i meant, etch primer and any urethane single stage sanded with minimum of 320 grit, and cleaned with wax and grease remover then heated slightly with a heat gun to evaporate it all off of the aluminum..

I've used the Delstar system before on many products , not lower units but it is very tough stuff . Used plenty of Imron with Variprime etching primer as well and it has held up great but it was on marine products above water . Prep is the key to provide a proper coating thickness and not try to fill imperfections with heavy primer or repeated topcoat passes . Sand , sand and sand some more before painting .

Dupont Vari-prime is better then the dp 40 and any single stage enamel works great..
