anyone with outboard jet experience?

hey guys, i have a riveted 1648 2013 alumacraft modified v with a 2001 johnson 35 hp 3 cylinder. 24 v trolling motor, 2 batteries. approx boat weight of 700 pounds. outboard jets has the jet pump for my motor, and i was wondering how it would run/get on plane. i have run a 25 hp merc on the boat before, and it did pretty well. 27 - 28 mph. with the current prop 35, hole shot is instant and it throws you back. tops out at 32 mph. would a 25 jet be equivilent in thrust to a 25 prop? i also ran an old 1970 crankshaft rated 25 and it did 25 mph.

i generally fish with one other person at the most.

It will be terrible. I ran a jet a few times on my riveted 1648 EMPTY and it would hardly get it totally on plane. I've even got a 6" jackplate on it to easily change engine height. Running a 2005 25hp Merc.

I'd find at least a 50 hp, or even better a tiller 3cyl omc.

It takes a 50 hp power head on a jet to equal the same as a 35 with a prop. You loose about 25% when you change to a jet.

25 at the prop is probably 15 for a jet

So chances are, even though I have 35 at the prop now, which is 24.5 at the jet assuming 30% loss, it won't run anything like the boat did with a 25 prop. Honestly, I would only use the jet a few times a year, but I'm not going to risk $1700 if it may not plane out

I would power up before spending that kind of cash.

A jet for that motor sounds like a waste of money.

i know this has been beat to death, but what are your thoughts on this chart? the 4 stroke yamaha 40/30 pushes this 800 lb bare hull/1500 lb package to 27 mph. wouldnt my 35 3 cylinder push a 700 lb loaded boat similar? my biggest concern in this investment is being able to get on plane. if its slow, i can deal with that, as long as i can run shallower than with my prop. if its 20 mph but stays on plane, im okay with that. this is simply for a once in a while fishing areas, 90% of the time i will be running my prop set up.

Back in the day before jet pumps, they had a set up you pushed down on a handle, it would jack up your small outboard and your prop would miss the rocks.
