I'm looking for a manual jackplate with minimal setback for my race boat which is getting re-rigged with a 115HO E-TEC. It needs to be STRONG as it will be raced hard in true offshore conditions.
Where should I look?
Thanks

This one (Vance) is the most economical ($180) with 3" setback. I bought one and it appears to be very well built:

This one (R & R) is the nicest looking, and if they're advertising it with a Verado on it, it must be strong (3" setback):

This (Bob's) is tried-and-true proven, not the prettiest or cheapest ($260) but it is reversible (2.5" or 5" setback):

I have been telling Bobs they need to build a true minimal setback jackplate. I have an old, no longer made, jackplate with just enough clearance for the bolts heads. You could came something similar for little expense. Setback is about 1-1/4" IIRC.

That Vance unit looks up to the job and a reasonable price too! Any idea what the R&R 3" one costs? I mailed them a while back but never had a response

The R&R slidemaster is not only the thickest of any plate I've seen, it's tongue and groove design is superior to flat plates that place the shear point on the SS bolts. Here's my 3"

I've emailed R & R twice in the last week about the 3" Slidemaster, as I want one as well. No replies.

Thats almost twice the weight of mine. Might not matter for some but it does for others. I do like the design though. Would be a lot easier to adjust.
Do you need fine adjustments or just need to get the motor up? Theres always these:

Steve could you send me pictures and a price please to
[email protected]
Mr Demeanor yours doesn't really look like it could hack an hour of hard offshore racing, sometimes it's better to sacrifice some weight saving for the sake of strength! No doubt it's great for your needs, but we wreck stuff like it's a game… an expensive ball ache of a game :D

I didn't like how much the bobs moved around on my boat in rough water, even with a stock 2.5 200. The 4" rapidjack is almost double the setback of this (R&R says 3" but it's closer to 2-1/2") As for a fixed plate, I like that idea best, but on a 16 action you need the fine adjustment, especially running a fatmaster. I tried running the 15" 280 directly on the transom but still couldn't get it high enough, that's when I lucked out and found this.
The other thing with my particular hull is now that the splashwell is flat, the transom is shorter than most. I even had to cut 2-1/2" of height out of this plate so it wouldn't hang below the Step. It's now even with the step so if I want to fab some kind of afterplane I can drill and tap the bottom of the plate to use as a forward mounting surface.

thanks for the info. about the setback plates and the adjustments ya'll need.
sounds like i need to start producing some 3 and 4 inch magnum EZ Lifts. the magnum plates will be made out of 1/2 metal (t6 6061) center screw plates.
we will take a look at this project soon.

Steve, whever pics of my jackplate surface I get PM's about buying it from me. You really could do well with a minimum setback jackplate. Mine is very basic but you could easily design something a little beefier and I think it would be a hit. In fact, I would want to carry it.

we sell alot of 4 and 5 " jack plates, but our ez lifts are only 3/8's metal and only rated to 2.5 ltr motors.
with what i'm seeing on scream and fly. it seems there is a need for 3,4,5 in ez lift plates with an un limited weight rating. which
would require 1/2" metal.
thanks
