I went to the Winter Nationals yesterday. All I can say is, it was awesome. I was told they sold 800 wrist bands, and had 100 boats. Outboards, and jets of all calibers.
Some really great testing. Great facility, nice weather. The Sheriffs Dep. and Coast Guard were great. Congrats to DennyMac and everyone who helped put it on.

Awesome stuff.
I've been before. If you like shade tree racing, it doesn't get any better. When I was there I did the math and came up w/over 200 passes made in 3 hrs! Some bad ass rides too. Many of the fastest in the country were there.
Sorry I missed it.

No fire extinguishers? Anywhere?

I heard they used 2 or 3 fire extinguishers on it to no avail. From the other end of the course I did see them trying to put it out with the props of their boat.
Gas, nitros, and alcohol make a hot fire. I was not down on that end, so I don't know for sure.

Have you ever had a bad boat fire? Once it gets going good, it's gone. Like putting out a burning tire.

In hindsight things could've been done a little differently. Tra had the best shot at putting it out before it really got going but his extinguisher didn't work. Hate to see this stuff happen to such a good guy. He lost everything but the mid and gearcase, not sure if the block is any good.

True, a methanol fire is nothing fun to deal with.

Btw, for what it's worth, an outboard came away as the King of The Hill. When you consider some if the mountain motor jet boats that come its pretty impressive

The fastest "lake" jets I've ever seen were when I went there.

The problem was the Coast Guard boat trimmed one motor up and left the other motor buried so you can imagine as soon as he hit the gas the boat just accelerated away from the fire. Tra is yelling at the guy to get back over there and get water on it and the driver is pulling his phone out taking pics. Needless to say Tra wasn't real impressed with their efforts. Sad deal!!

Like said, I've been in a bad fire. Total loss. There's nothing you can do but jump out and swim. :(
At least no injury or casualty.

I hate it as bad as anyone. Tra is a great young man. All this hindsight is just that hindsight. I'm not going to blame Tra, the Sheriffs Dept., or the Coast Guard. It just happened
as shet sometimes does. The main thing is that he's OK, and will be back probably stronger than ever. JMHO

This was about the 10th year in a row for this and this was the biggest and best turn out yet. i feel real sorry for Tra, it was sad to watch. maybe it could have been handled a little different by the coast guard, but it went up so fast i honestly don't think the outcome would have been much different.
and thanks to the Minnesota guys for coming down, it was nice to meet and race with ya'll. Scott's red xb runs strong!

This was a great event and thanks to DennyMac, Jolene, jack and everybody else who helped put the Winter Nats on. Ya`ll did a great job and we had a great time. Lots of boats and people even from Minnisotta. They said their water was solid right now so i asked them what they did this time of year and they said ice fishin. Go figure.
Agreed with all about fiberglass fires. Once it starts not much anybody can do and this one was on the water so it was hard to reach. Maybe a water cannon would have made a differance if there had been one around but the CG and local water police did all they could. Sorry about your boat Trea. I`ve torn up several myself and it hurts.

It was an awesome week that included some testing on the river, BBQ's, meeting great people and story telling.
Got to meet some of the people that I have read about for years on the boards.
You cannot realize how quick some of these boats are until you see it in person.
Thanks Denny and crew for a great show.
Thanks for the kind words on the XB Casey, we both know there is a white one in Tx that runs stronger:)

what a shame to loose the boat to fire like that, too bad they didn't have the F1 champboat safety crew, they are from the houston area. back when i worked for the series we had a fire and the safety crew went to the bow and lifted it and sank the boat, fire was out in seconds. boat was repaired over night and raced the next day. didn't have to wait on the uscg

Y'all had great air this weekend. In the summer it goes to crap from the heat but in January it's awesome. Really wish I could've made it but my daughter had her 4th birthday party and there's some things I can't miss. Matthew called me earlier in the week wondering if I was bringing my boat cause he wanted to run me to get a gauge on his after changing some stuff up and trying his new intake. Our boats should be real close, less than a boat length with the edge going to him but it sounds like his intake was a hit. Guess we'll never know, my boat just sold today. Would've been an awesome last ride in it

Hey Gater, This year was no different. Soon as the drivers meeting DennyMac said for the first class to put in the water and after they was all tired, broke, or outa gas they put the second class in and we ran till the sun went down. I came in about half way through cause i ran outa juice. The law was as cool as they could get and they also ate real good. Free of coarse!
