Love watching the old Molys run with the bow 5 feet in the air! It's 2 feet off the water sitting at the dock.

Ron Hill, Jimbo, Johnnie Sanders, Tom Posey, Bob Nordskog, Carl Asmus, Jack Leek, race manager, Jim Wagner, asst. race mgr. Melinda McCune, Tom McCune, Mouse (OMC technician, never knew his real name) Ken Soller another Tech Me of course & who could forget, Ted May. Maybe others if I look at the video again. It's me in boat 14 after my test run. Hated testing there, always strung out Jack wanted "good" results.

Nice job Benny and Nick, thank the lord somebody is putting history on record, too much of it has already been lost. Was amazed i knew every single guy you mentioned. Steve will tell you who drove "BROMO" wasn't that one of Charlie Sheppards boats.?????

Well done John good memory i will see what i can add to this video at 6.31 Clive Curtis is speaking to head of European racing John Tucker wearing a blue jumper with red collar` Clive appears in a few shots he is wearing a blue jacket with yellow stripes down his arms at 9.31 he is speaking to Bob Nordskog`now the RED no 13 outfit of Mcunes is a Austrian Schultz cat which was one of two identical outfits in this race the other was no45 driven by Dieter Shultze which was red as well.I cannot see where Barry Woods was entered for this race at all` at 14.38 it shows a young James Beard standing by the front of his own green Couger cat no 35 in the picture but in the program says he is no 37 for this race`this was the first Picklefork racing boat i ever saw if you look at the lower side spray rails on the sponsons they finish around halfway down the hull this is where the 3inch steps start` it also had a powertrim system using a car master cylinder with foot pedal will endclose a picture it was quiet revolutionary for its time.Well John i think this would be the first time you drove a OMC stinger engine with power trim and lift there were 13 Johnson powered outfits and 7 Evinrude outfits racing not all were Factory engines i ran a private entered Stinger engined outfit the standard unit had much lower compression and was detuned with no power trim this same style engine finished third overall on a Molinari driven by Ari De Boom no 35.At 1420 the yellow Molinari no 39 is Bob Spaldings 1970 factory boat he was teamed up for this race for the first of many times with Tom Percival.Jackie mentioned the orange decked Johnson GT powered Bristol cat Bromo a Dutch outfit but not entered in this race.At the start of this video behind Bob Nordskogs Molinari you can see Beards Couger on the traler in the background

You are correct, Barry was just a spectator in 1970. I won the marathon nationals championships earlier that year single engine with that same boat. I'm thinking that that was the first race or one of the very first that we OMC had the electric/hydraulic trim. Earlier we had just electric which was soooooo slooooow, & when 1970 began we didn't have trim at all.I ran that same boat at Havasu that year & hydraulic a sponson shoe, no wonder after all the pounding in Paris with Ron & I co-driving. I believe we were 6th or 7th, and I believe DeBoom had a stinger as well and they father & son drove very consistent. After Paris I had to return home so Jimbo drove with Ron in Berlin & they won.

After the October Berlin race the very next weekend was the UK Windermere Speed Record attempts and I remember well in 1970 most of the UK drivers were all trying to break the Speed record for the ON CLASS we had Freddi Miles. Bob Spalding. James Beard. Bill Shakespeare.all competing for the best top speed run.John did OMC ever let you try 1 to 1 lower units on the V4 engines for top speed runs?

We always used the 1:1 for the second day at Havasu. Ran the club gear case the 1st day than thinking less boats ran the 1:1. I believe all OMC team did

John: WE didn't have a 1:1 gearcase when I was involved. The ratios were 15:17 and 14:23. We ran the 15:17 until Provo when I adapted the 14:23 from the V-4 to the rotary. AS far as top speed, we tested in Fl. prior to Parker in the mid 120's. Best estimates at Parker were 140 + based on the 7L hydro's clocked speed the week before of 140 MPH.

We certainly did for the V-4's in the early 70's

October 1970 at the Windemere speed record runs the Mercury Twister 1 and the Johnson/Evinrudes were nearly the same top speed I can remember Freddie Miles Mercury outfit moving his seat and battery forward to try and keep his boat on the water. The speeds were all around 89 to 92 mph except Bill Shakespeare`Jack Leek sent bill over a 1:1 gearcase and Prop and Bill recorded 118 mph best one way run it was on one of his small lightweight GRP boats and it did have a stepped hull.
