I just used Plasti-Dip on the plastic console cover in my truck. Pretty neat stuff and I can see where it could be used on a boat.
This is the same stuff that you buy at Home Depot to dip and rubberize your tool handles but in a spray can. They have a bunch of colors and I am really impressed with the results.
The black plastic in my H2 has a soft rubber like coating that had been scratched and peeled in a few places. I researched repairing it and was going to have it painted. I have it all apart installing a new sound system. I came across some info on this stuff and gave it a try.
The cool part is if you screw it up or are not happy with it, you can peel it off. After a few days it doesnt come off as easy but it can always be removed and resprayed. There is a whole website devoted to this stuff:
www.dipyourcar.com
They are doing entire cars, wheels, etc.
This is my console. I used lacquer thinner to remove the factory coating and then sprayed it. The finish looks factory. Its a little rubbery/sticky but I think that goes away as it cures.

This might be good for some things on the boat or to just try a color and then peel it off. I could see using it on a steering wheel, bezels, you could put some strips up the deck and peel em off if you didint like them. For us saltwater guys, I can see using this on some parts like exposed trim pumps, brackets, etc that tend to rust.
Its not a replacement for things like powder coat or anodizing but you could have some fun with it. They say it wont fade in the sun. I just sold a Dodge with bad sun damage to the roof and hood. I could have sprayed it and git a few more bucks maybe.

I have seen a couple of " tuner cars " painted with plasti-dip and one of the owners said it held up very well. He said once it set up it was like "chip guard". I may try it on one of my older trailers that I pull over dirt roads. Gary

Getting ready to try clear on the textured cap of an Allison bass boat. Excited to see how it goes. Should be non slip.
We have a small tool we build for the Army and have used plastic dip on the handle. Works well but if you use the dip method as opposed to spraying, you need to use up as much as you can cuz the can is near impossible to seal and hte stuff will harden in the can.

I wouldnt see why not. Just clean them really good first. Should provide some protection as well. Its only $5 per can.

I used it on my Harley Davidson emblem on my F250. The rear emblem was corroded and peeling, I'm guessing from the chemicals used in the drive-thru car wash that the previous owner used to run the truck thru. Just tried to scuff it a little with a wire brush to loosen up the chips that were peeling off and then shot a few coats of plast-dip over it. It's got a flat black appearance to it, but some say if you shoot clear coat over it that it will give it a gloss look. I think one of my buddies is gonna have a plasti-joke played on his dodge ram, ya'll got me thinking.....

They have a glossifier you can spray over it. If you go to the website they have a LOT more products than just what you see at the store.
I am putting rims on the Hummer in the next year (as soon as it needs tires) and was thinking flat black. I may spray my stock chrome rims to see how I like it first.
If not black, maybe charcoal grey.

If you haven't looked, go to their website and look at the industrial and OEM coatings. Some really neat stuff.
