Really trust your feedback especially since I'm not a member on any other boating groups besides THT.

Situation: Needing to buy some deep cycle batts for my bay rig. Will use a 24v / 72 lb thrust trolling motor pretty hard and heavy in the Spring. Been researching and have came up with that I need to go with the Deep Cycle 34 series in AGM.

My questions for you are why are the Optimas so much more when they weigh less than 10lbs compared to a normal AGM type? Is weight that much of a big deal or am I missing something else in the #'s? In my case it would equate to roughly 20lbs (for 2 batteries) that will not be that noticable.

For the money, I just can't justify spending over $100 more per batt. Thats me though.

If you run them hard forget the Optimas. Personally, I haven't had good luck with them. They seem to be OK if they are not used hard and are recharged quickly. I have heard that the on board charge system works fine with them. I don't know for sure. The Sears PM2 would be a my choice. Also if weight/space is not an issue go with the PM1. I have personal experience with the Sears PM1, 2 and Odyssey. They have been very reliable. If you have a big Merc. both the PM1 and 2 may be used as a starting battery. If I was going to a flooded battery, my choice would be WalMart Everstart Maxx. about $99.00 WalMart is everywhere and they warrant their battery without hassle I am told. JMHO!!

Ended up going to Wally World and getting (2) of the Everstart 27 series deep cycle with 24 month warranty for $99 ea. including the core charge. As you stated, it was a good price especially with the 2 year warranty.
