Whats the chances of a 2.5 bored .044 over with wisecos living?Any better or worse than a .015 or .030. My best ported lake motor is at .030 and failed.I do my own boring and sleeves, but I'm thinking i can get one more round out of these bores.Just not sure about the wisecos. My thinking is it may work better because the thinner sleeve would transfer heat faster. For the forged pistons,I would open it up for .008 cleareance----Or just bite it, and replace the sleeves, and a new set of vertexes.

I've got a win/win situation for you to consider.I have been using Wsm pistons, lots of em,and have been impressed, top quality parts...I feel better than vertex, over 500 sold this year...,most in our powerheads, with no troubles at all.I personally will not use sticko's in a Merc 60 degree.Wsm's are available in 010,020,030,and 040.Call if you like,305-394-3354,Chris

Oh,and yes,the thinner the sleeve the better it will give up heat...as long as its tight in the block.A stuck piston in stock bores often stretches the diameter of the sleeve and block, ruining the interference fit and heat transfer...we install a lot of oversized sleeves,Chris

Chris,
Any idea who makes WSM pistons? I know Pro-Marine brand are made in Argentina by a company called Persan.

I had 2 pro pistons puke locator pins within 30hrs on fresh motors! Not happy, pro said they had a bad run of looper pistons but thought they were all gone. Well I got the last 2 sets. They will be replacing them....

Chris, what does the fish motor 2.5L piston/ring/pin/ cost a piece?

Chris, what does the fish motor 2.5L piston/ring/pin/ cost a piece? I understand these are a cast piston.

I can do a little better but can't publish prices, call,it's worth the effort. The pistons are a NASA developed long grain high silicon content alloy, stronger than cast/more stable than forged...good/good,Chris

I actually know someone who worls at Pro and he said he wouldnt trust them in anythiung but a fishing motor without top pinning. I also compared the port window in a Pro piston to stock and Vertex. The Pro piston had smaller port window. IIRC it was almost 15% smaller on my motor. It was enough that I noticed it just looking at them.
Spun mine to 7700rpm the other day.

I have two motors with Vertex in them that I run the crap out of, I cannot be happier and they have far outreached my expectations. WSM makes great stuff too, very nice to see a .040 over.

THATS the reason I top pin ALL cast as well as use nothing but top pinned forged pistons in ALL motors ....I get a kick outta of people that say side pin pistons don't fail they obviously don't see and build very many motors , I also open the port sizing on them to mock the Hi Per pistons ;) ...... We use Wsm on almost all our rebuilds, before them vertex was the piston of choice. So far this year records show we've bought over 500 WSM's,mostly installed here, with a one year warranty on remans, have never had a single locator pin failure on a Wsm or vertex piston,so I'll stick to what works for me...I'm not upset with side pins,I'm also not spinning 11k,Chris

the high rpm motor that jay builds do the side pin spitting, myself i rebuilt a lot of motors not a single pin lost but i allways use new pistons vertex mostly and pro marine a some WSM these motors are all under 6800 rpms, everytime i hear the side pin pitch i chukle and think of how many millions and millions of side pins pistons are running right now
