One or the other wasn't reading the pitch in the same spots some read the middle of the blade some read leading edge etc

Something is definitely off between the two propellers???
Too drop 1000 rpm & still run the same speed with supposedly the same pitch/dia. is way off!
The pitch would have to be considerably different for that to happen.
Any chance the tachometer messed up at the same time?

I could understand a 200-300 rpm difference if the two props were very different designs from different firms- but a 1000 rpm change could be the tach- as Tim posts- or it could be that someone just stamped the wrong pitch on it. I had a similar issue once with 2 Merc Props that were stamped 11 pitch for a 25 hp. One ran much lower rpm; I had a prop shop check it and found it was a 14.

is there a chance that you went from one brand where the blades were say 13 1/2 long. to the new one thats say 14 1/2in long? any change in if you went from a 3 blade to a 4 blade.
