I am looking to purchase a Cat in the 30' range , what is better ? Inboard or Outboard ? and for what reasons ... wanting to be in the lower triple digits or better , and useable ..
Thanks
Donnie

I am not using this to try to by or sell a boat , just looking for Information upon which is better ..
Onboard , or Outboard ?

What effect does a pod have on the ability or handling of the boat ?

Sorry I have to post in the first post , they are not allowing me to quote and reply ..

How much are you looking to spend? Where are you located? Running fresh or salt water?

I live near Daytona , and will be in Salt and Fresh .. more Salt than fresh I would imagine ..
I would imagine $100+/- K should get a nice toy

That budget will get you a nice cat. For salt water I would recommend Outboards, less maintenance and easier to work on. Also if you go with 250/300xs the fuel economy is really good. There are many cats that will fit your requirements: 32/30 Spectre, 30 Motion, 28/30/32 Skater are a few.

Predator makes a 30' Cat with either I/O or outboard power. They are Doug Wright designed/built molds..

Lightspeeds 30 is beautiful and looks like he's firm at 115k if you look in his for sale ad you'll see a pic of the 308 next to a 28 see the size difference

Lightspeed's 30 Skater is the best boat for what you're looking for IMHO. I currently have a 30 Skater IB and a 28 Skater OB, plus have spent many hours in a 30 Skater OB - it is the best overall setup for where you are going to be boating. Sure, my IB is very fast, but in the open ocean you wouldn't be able to run big speed anyways - plus the expense is soooo much greater. The outboards are also easier to work on, and the XSs will get double the fuel mileage an inboard gets. My naturally aspirated 588s get about 1.3mpg total at 100-110mph cruise, twin 300XSs get about 2.5mpg total at 80-85mph cruise. The 32DWs are awesome as well (better performance even than the 30 Skater), but not being listed in the NADA Guide really hurts resale (guys can't get loans if they're not cash buyers), and the overall build quality is much more "race" oriented. To build a new 30 Skater with 300XSs would cost you double what Lightspeed will take for his 30. And $115k will not get you a very nice 30'+ inboard rig - they're still all $140k+.

Big bucks and they have pods I believe which are not good for the ruff compared to a true tunnel.
