Hi Everyone,
What is the coldest lake or river water you should run a late 90's (untouched from Mercury) 300 Drag? I don't want a cold seize. Also, is 100 LL Avgas sufficient for this motor or do I need to mix that with 110 race gas? I am getting different answers to these questions so your knowledge will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
CNC Guy

I do have them but won't get boat to MN till halloween. I'm guessin the water will be to cold for that engine. I really want to run it once before winter tho.

what do you think the water temp will be ,,the drag motor will have the restrictor in the heads im sure you could put in t stats in and the motor would come up in temp or you will need to just slow the water down in the block, they love cold air and water just have to watch the temp guages

Probably 45 degrees or so. Thanks for replying. This is my 1st drag. I don't want to kill it.

I usually had them put away by then or being fixed. I just wasn't sure if the drag was more finicky.

Ive always been told as long as ya got 100deg temps on the motor your good to go. My promax has ran when the ice is on the lake. So very cold water with no issues. Ill run when I can break the ice at the boat ramp in spring up hear. If your water is only 45deg you should have no problem at all maintaining 100+ engine temps even when running wot. As mentioned above you could always throw some t-Stats in there to regulate it. Off shore races boats run in water in the 50,s all the time also. Mean motor sounds like fun!!!
