Can someone help me with this. I got a Honda 200S 3 wheeler for free. Its in good shape. Inside of the tank is kind of rusty, and the carb seems to leak out of the bottom. New carbs on ebay have some hose coming off the bottom, where does it go? Is it just a drain? Has anyone tried one of the replacement plastic tanks? I am just going to use it for hunting. I did crank it yesterday, it ran for a little while and then quit. The gas in it is way old. What is the shift pattern? I am having trouble finding neutral.

If the hose comes off the float bowl it's just a drain. I know my Grizz. has one on the float bowl.
Shift should be one down, the rest up.
Here is a link on cleaning the rusty tank. After you have it cleaned I know they make tank coating to prevent the rust or you could add a little 2 stroke oil and slosh it around. A little won't hurt your engine. If ya can't find the acid they talk about you can use Ospho, basically same stuff.

Here is the stuff you can coat it with after getting it cleaned out. http://www.redkote.com/

Manual shift with auto clutch on a Honda ATC is 5 down. Like Dave said, the hose on the bottom is likely a drain. Usually a screw comes off the float bowl near it and when you loosen the screw the bowl drains out the hose. The plastic tanks are OK. I've used a product called Kreem in the past to seal up a rusty tank, even with holes straight through. If it's not too bad check Google for a bunch of info on cleaning a rusty motorcycle tank. Also put a filter in line when you're done. Tons of info on 3wheelerworld.com and 3wheeler.org. I own several of them and have been playing with them since I was a kid.

OK if its 5 down, where is neutral, all the way up? Yes it is the auto clutch 200S. I ordered a new mikuni carb for it today and the plastic tank, it holds more gas. Then I can redo the stock tank. I heard of the Kreem stuff, but I kinda want to try to get it running for our club workday, so we can drag fields. I won't have time to treat the tank. It's pretty rusty inside. No holes. But nasty stale gas.

I had an old Honda 3-wheeler. Same issue with the tank. I took a small chain and put it in the tank and sloshed it around with some gas and it cleaned the rust out pretty well. I just ran an inline filter in it and never had a problem. The leak from the bottom of the carb is from a sticky float. The carbs are real easy to take apart and clean. On a side note I have never had a motorized toy hurt me as bad and as often as that 3-wheeler did. I sure am glad I upgraded to a 4-wheeler. I can't remember the shift pattern in mine but is was all down. Mine was an ATC 110.

Greg I hear on that. I am going to be careful on it. I have ridden a couple before. Main issue I had was wanting to put my foot down like on a bike, and then running over it. I mainly plan on using it at my hunting club for dragging or hauling a deer, maybe discing/dragging fields, things like that. I want a 4 wheeler bad, but money is tight right now.

Yes. Neutral is all the way up.

Neutral is all the way up.
the hose is a drain.
its leaking because the rust got in the needle attached to the float and is holding it open, you probably need a new needle and bowl gasket.
plastic tanks are great but yours can be cleaned by getting the major out using nuts/bolts shaking around then using the kreem 3 step system with acid, cleaner, and coating.dont use cheap tank coating from orielys, ethanol will eat it out. and always run a filter.

OK I found some video's on youtube last night where a guy does some work on them, so I feel a lot better. Once I see something then I have it. I bet I can get this sucker running like a top.

Probably. Those things run forever.

i own 25 running honda 3 wheelers and that many more parts bikes i know my way around them. The hose is a drain and overflow make shure the screw in the side of the bowl is tight it could be draining but most likely trash on the needle like stated above. If it is a 85 or 86 the shift pattern will be all up neutral all the way down.honda changed everthing in 85.

It is an 84 model. I got my tank and new Mikuni carb in and installed yesterday. Runs like a top. Doesn't need the choke to start either. Usually first pull. Needs to warm up a little. Still adjusting idle speed. Dang sucker will pull the front wheel off the ground in first gear in a heart beat. So far I really like it. I bought a rack for an 82 model, hope it will fit on the back. Might have to work on it a little. Be nice if I could haul a deer on it. But the best thing is it will let me explore a lot at my hunting club without having to walk.

If you want to save the old tank, pour a quart of pea stone or fish tank stone in it.rubber strap it to the outside of your riding lawn mower wheel, and mow the grass. It will be clean when your done.I do that to old outboard tanks, but I strap them to my tractor wheel.

There is a rubber cap behind the head on the left side on top of the trans.pull the cap off you will find what looks like a bolt with a 10mm head run threw a 14 mm nut. With the motor idling loosen the 10 mm about a turn and then Posen the 14 mm about a turn. This is the auto timing chain adjust often overlooked it should imProve the way the motor runs. Retighten the fourteen and then lock it with the 10 mm only takes a second. The proper spark plug is a dr8es-L

I will try that and see what it does. This thing sat in a garage for at least 10 years, so... we shall see. The plug from the outside looks new. I haven't pulled it to see. It runs really good, I just need to make sure I have the idle speed right. It will idle where it is now fine when its warm, it might be a shade to low for cold idle. I know it doesn't like having the choke on at all. Won't start. The hardest thing I am adjusting to is the gear box. Never ever driven anything that was all down. So to downshift I have to lift up. Weirding me out.

I like the plastic one, because it holds more gas. But it needs a vent hose on the top. I don't want gas dripping on me if I am out hunting, so the first time it drips on me, its coming off. But for now, I will leave it on.

It helps to put a quart of mineral spirits with the stone.Run it 20 min then turn it the other way to get it all.

Yes it will do a wheelie. I wish it wasn't so tippy turning though. If I put about 20 psi in the back tires, it turns a lot better, but it rides rougher.

If it has factory style balloon tires on it they are tippy get. A tire that is flat across the top a golf cart tire will go on the 8" rims and it will fo donuts on dry ground faster than you can hold on I had a flat track in back yard will 6 of them set up with cart tires what a blast

I need something for hunting use though. I have some spots I need the traction. I can always air them back up. I put 20 psi in them. LOL!!

I got it, if I need something, I'll holler. This thing is actually complete. I bought a back rack off ebay from an 82 model, hoping I can make that work.

If your not used to 3 wheelers, when one rear tire gets traction and the other spins it will hang a quick turn toward the spinning tire and may throw you off. Logs will make it do this too. They also like to go over backwards when going uphill. Great machines and a lot of fun.

Hopping it over logs will make the front end come up. Also they like to turn over sideways, when going down a hill (trail) that is uneven. My right foot is pretty bruised up, but hey, its light. I think I got it pretty well dialed in, put a new moose air filter on it, and I have an E3 plug coming for it. I put some header wrap on the pipe coming off the engine all the way back to the connection for the muffler. That cut down on a lot of the heat by my leg. It usually starts on the first or second pull. Even cold. Of course once it gets colder during hunting season, we shall see how it does. Pretty sure I will have to get either an exhaust system, or at least a replacement muffler. My spark arrestor was bouncing around in there, so I pulled it out, and lost a little bottom end. Plus it is noisy now. I'd love to make it really quiet. Like stealth quiet. HAHA

I'll tell ya one thing on 3 wheelers. They sure are a lotta fun! Friend owns one on his farm, plus theres one running around here too.
But they are "Widow Makers" too. Why they were outlawed. My brother had his own "Farm out" Insurance adjuster biz in So Cal. Started it in the early 80's, and he simple made a ton of money running claims on the people who had flipped over and broke there neck. So with that said, simple be careful. The idea of a flatter tire sure does help, but if running balloons just pay attention.
I wish I had one myself! Best I could do is a 86 CT70 Minitrial, and THATS a gas! Still wanna toss a 110 motor in it though. I could "kit it" to a 90 (can't do 70 to 110, as different crank I think) but easier just got get a new motor, as this engine is getting tired. But those motors are simple bullet proof! Run forever!
3 wheelers great for hunting too! Have fun with it!

I had a Kaw 125 dirtbike that had a leaky tank. Put a plastic one on, and simple ran some clear plastic tubing in a loop off the cap vent nipple. Simple taped somewhere in front the tank to the frame. I never did get any gas that worked its way up and over and out. Should not be a problem you, as ya just be cruising anyway.

If you want it quiet, stuff some steel wool in it. The muffler that is....

I found a universal one, I am checking to see if it will work. Mine is pretty loud without the spark arrestor in it. So I wouldn't have a way to keep the steel wool in it right now.

Find a can that will fit over the end of the pipe clamp it on and poke it full of holes it will be very quite the cans burn out after a while so the thicker the can the better
