Any on knows what are the differences between the motors? Also, what power does each actually produce? I know both of them produce more then 200hp.

Gen 1 motors were closer to a true 200hp. They didn't turn as many rpm's as the gen 2 motors as the gen 2 has an updated compressor. I have heard the gen 2 motors make an honest 240 hp.

Hows your boat running? To me it sounds like a perfect package, fast, great in rough water, low fuel burn, quiet, reliable, and probably not to bad on insurance?

Gen 2 are short shaft, 1.75 gears. Gen 1 were 20" mids, 1.87?

Only option for the Gen 2 ROS is 15" mid, with 1.75 Sport master lower. Also they have the SST which I think is 12".
For Gen 1, they had 20" bass mid with torque master or sport master 1.87 and also was available with 15" mid ROS with Sport master 1.87, not sure if 2.0 lower was available though.

SST is 12" mid, 15:17 gears, I'm not sure what it would work on besides a racing tunnel.

According to Rick @ merc racing changes included pistons, reeds, compressor, computer, injectors, ect. Thought Rayzor mentioned new block #'s as well. Fuel cooler loop is eliminated, fuel hose routing changes, t-stats dump through the bottom pan, compressor dump line is poked out the back of the lower cowling. Can't speak to hp numbers but was told 240 give or take. Engine ID states 225. 4th season on my gen 2 @ 650 hours. I would buy another one!!

Interesting. Does this make any extra noise? I wasn't a fan of drilling an extra hole in my adapter to dump the compressor and if merc dumped it out the cowl on the gen2, I'll do my XS the same way.

Their is a small filter/attenuater installed on the dump line. While you can hear the compressor at idle, it's effect on sound is not significant and diminishes or becomes inaudible as rpm's climb
