I had one way back when. It was a 1984 bought brand new with a 115 Merc outboard. The best it ever ran was 59 MPH (on radar) with a 3 blade Spinelli Chopper. I owned the boat for 3 years and beat on it pretty hard. To say that it was falling apart when I sold it would be a major understatement. And that was after I had the transom reinforced by running a pair of 3/4" rods forward to a 2x6 glassed in behind the back seat. The biggest problem I had was a wicked hook built into the hull by the folks at Larson - that just wasn't cost effective to remove. They're a good looking boat, but I wouldn't put anything bigger on it and I'd drive it somewhat gently.

And rods? To the motor bolts or transom?

"Hook" refers to a condition where the running surface on the hull is actually concave from front to rear. This tends to force the bow down. Most hulls are either dead straight or sometimes you will find some designed in "rocker" where the running surface is convex. As for the rods the repair facility added, they decided to run them from the transom straight forward to a treated 2"x6" they added behind the back seat.
