Trying to decide wether to stay with a tm or go with a sporty. Our Velocity will run 80+ any day full of gas. With myself and light on fuel it is several mph faster.I belive with a few small changes it will hit 85 soon.Being the boat isn't a everyday 85mph if I went to a sporty would I slow it down?I think the best would be to cone a tm ,but all cones and filler start to crack at some point.Whats your guys take on this.

Too bad you live so far away I'd swap with you to try it. I have a Sportmaster on my Velocity. The Torquemaster case looks smaller so I'm guessing it would be faster. Probably wouldn't even need a cone either.

the sporty will be slower. JMO

I always found the TM skeg to be a little odd with the curved (or rolled) torque tamer. Seeing as you are right on the cusp in the mid 80's I'd want more feedback on that skeg's effect on speeds. I'm assuming that the 3.0 TM's have this rolled skeg but my comment is only based on seeing it on a 2.5. Perhaps that 3.0 Torquemaster skeg is completely different?

I think the TM probably is faster as well. How far can I push it as far as speeds go.Id really rather not cone it personaly.Anyone know of any mods that can be done to the case to push the blowout sped up a bit.Im not sure if skeg shape change would help or possibly blueprinting it somehow.Anyone seen a tm that's been modified other then a cone.

3.0L skeg is different! 2.5 is rolled not the 3.0L.
I say if you can raise the TM to a decent height, keep good water press and control it will be your faster case at the speeds you are running.
I have a sporty but changed and found the TM run best for my application on my 21 RS. I also just got a Titus coned TM but have not tried it yet, will report back on that once I try it.
This is the TM I'm currently running. Only mod was the closing of the upper holes, and tear dropping the ones left open.

With a heavy enough boat I would think TUX's mod should be fine up to ~85mph. If you can go over that I would cone the TM. JMO

If you are going to run a coned TM or Sportmaster I would also add more setback to help the boats lift that will most likely be needed to help it fly.

Now there must be different dynamics at work with Yami's HPDI coned lower because it just seems to work great for any speeds from 70 mph on up with no problem.;) :D:leaving:

I ended up finding a 1.75 torquemaster with low hours.Went ahead and had him send to Jc's prop then Jc will send it to me.I had Jc do a lower a few years ago for me and it a work of art and hes a great guy to deal with.So hopefully I can run a bit higher and turn a few more Rpm's with the 1.75 gears.

Is JC putting a cone on it right now or just freshening up the case. This is the kind of test I needed to see happen. Of course my boat is shorter an lighter but results should be comparable.

1FASTERLASER, I also have a Titus coned TM that I plan on trying before our season ends and will be posting feedback on the performance difference. Everything will be the same except for the cone.

He is adding a cone as well as enlarging the torque tab.The velocity is a fairly heavy boat so getting even another mph is tough.I'm hoping to see 85 even if its just once.

I went out on a 21' last week that is still dialing in with a 250xs.....the owner changed from a Sportmaster to a bob's coned TM and picked up 2 mph with better handling, top speed still below 80.

If I switch to 300xs powerhead (got to find one firs) I get sportmaster -> should be 90+ boat easily if I'm going to tinker with 250xs ill cone the case. I haven't push the boat yet with very light load. Currently 82 mph and climbing on rev limit. I'm kind of afraid that stock torquemaster will blow out on me. IMHO (:) better be safe than sorry

yeah and blow out is no fun!!! I had it happen with my sporty from too much trim!
