This boat looks good but I think he's asking way too much with this alternative power. Should I consider the package if the price came down enough? What's everyone's thoughts on 225 Suzukis? Do they make anywhere near 225 HP and are they reliable? 60 degree V? How's the lower units?

That's what I thought but I was thinking they are Japanese and I remember years ago someone I knew had one on a Laser that ran pretty good. Ok, that answers that. I like the boat though.

Not a bad engine in my opinion, but they don't do well around salt water with corrosion. And the lower units are HARD to come by for the V6's, and they corrode and break quite often without constant maintenance. Figure around $1000-1200 for a good used lower unit if you can find one. 1100 hours isn't bad, and is actually a good thing. The boron coating on the cylinder walls was known to break out and take the engine out in the 200-500 hour range. Most engines that made it past 500 hours seemed to last forever, but until they crossed 500 hours it was a crapshoot. And they are different engines to work on with the multi piece cranks that are pressed together in a fixture.

10 bucks the first one you blow breaks its crank. Another 10 bucks the running one will need a stator in the next year which costs more then the motor is worth  :leaving:

mike there is one around here for sale just like that with a pair of suzukis all summer and the guy cant sell it either...The thought has crossed my mind a few times to buy it and then stockpile a few of those ol zuks....I have worked on them in the past and they are definetly strange and frommy recollection parts are even more pricey than yamaha parts....i do remember the few boats i ran with them did seem to run well though....

Seriously the Trailer is sweet. Go see where/if it is soft and go from there. Could be a nice ride.
I know a couple people that love those motors but they already have a stock pile. I have seen them for sale down here but I dont know what they actually sell for so I have no clue on re-sale.

They are Japanese, but that does not make them Yamahas.
A pair from 1998 is likely to cause you less trouble than a pair of 1998 OMCs, but more trouble than a pair of 1998 Mercs.

Got a friend just bought a bbrand new 225 they sold it to him first then called him the next day after he paid for a motor in stock and told him it was on back order for 3 months they do have a 6 year warranty and it does seem to run pretty good but his boat will be the closest I ever get to having one when I'm fishing with him if I bought a new four stroke it definitely be the SHO

Other than a limited dealer network and parts availability, the zuki 4strokes are great motors...but the boat in this thread has old 2stroke zuki's......I'd rathe be stuck with the old 5cylinder force 150 than a zuki 2 stroke....:

Wow that's bad. I was thinking maybe first season then repower cause I've seen a few of these with Suzuki power but I guess if I'm gonna buy one for the boat ill negotiate without power or down to the point of what I would pay without power.

Yea Ghost I think that's the other one I was thinking of when I said i saw a couple with Suzukis. Is that still on the market? I think I emailed him too. Nobody answers.
I'm just thinking I'd buy for the boat and run it till I find a better pair of motors then sell them off for whatever they are worth. I mean if I got it for the right price, just run them till the day when only one has to bring me home to the dock then repower. Who knows might get lucky.

I don't know. Seems like powerboat listings site has many OLD OLD ads that don't expire. I found Godspeeds Motion on there yesterday. He was selling that years ago.

Mike there are a lot of that style boats down here on Miami craigslist. At any given time there is 4-5 plus a week. So Fl craigslist has a great deal of scrabs and donzis. I know it's a haul but they seem cheaper and more plentiful. Rick
