hi guys; hoping someone can answer my question, I have a bilge pump in the center part of the hull in my 04 voyager. will water drain from the left and right sponsons into the center of the hull so the bilge can pump it out? I have noticed that I get a lot of water coming over the stern of the boat in certain situations. thanks for the replies.

A 1984 Voyager didn't have sponsons. This boat was available in a V-bottom only.

no...

so water coming over the back of the sundeck on the stern of the boat can't get into the sponsons? is there any other way for water to get into the sponsons other than a leak in the hull?

Sinking I suppose.

The sponsons don't hold that much water at all. I leave mine in the water and when I pull it out and drain the sponsons there isn't even half a gallon of water in both of them. Whatever water gets in them I don't think makes any difference. My Voyager is an '05.

thanks for the reply greg, I did some checking and they are not sealed, I put a scope light in through the drain plug and could see the light from the back seat. but with my scope I could see that there are no holes to enable the water to drain into the center so the bilge could pump it out. do you think there would be a problem to drill a hole on each side to enable the water to drain to the middle? or should I just leave it alone.

I don't see how you can drill a hole to get them to drain to the center. The boats sit stern low in the water so anything that gets in the sponsons will be in the back. I was worried about it too but when I saw what little water they really hold it didn't bother me. I notice no difference at all in performance with what little they hold and I actually leave my boat in the water for the summer. I'd just leave it alone.

Update;
went for a ride with the family, we were going slow about 6 mph and next thing I know I'm getting water coming up through the foot throttle. We turn around and go back to the landing and put it on the trailer. Looking for a hole in the hull and there is none but then noticed the hull vents in the bow. They were the problem, when going slow the vents are underwater due to how low the boat sits and water flows in. I used some material called frogz skin it allows air to pass but not water. I'm posting this I case anyone else encounters this problem. If you google frogz skin you will go to where you can order this material

If you are talking about the drains for the anchor locker mine are nowhere near the waterline. You must have had a bunch of fat chicks in the bow.

lol I can assure you no fat chick, If you are just going about 6mph and waves are coming straight at you I can assure you water is entering those vents. check yours and see if they are just a drilled hole. 78 viper makes a good point also, mine might be drilled lower then yours. though fat chicks would help with the porpoising.:cheers:
