'93 2.5/245 carb motor loads up real bad when idling. The can has been pulled and exhaust relieved. Using a red Holley fuel pump. I noticed port side carbs have no air bleed jets, starboard has them in all three carbs. Do I need to remove all air bleed jets? Should I run without the airbox? Do I need a fuel pressure regulator? Where can I get one? Does it matter if you use 3/8 fuel line versus 5/16? I'm using 3/8. Mixing at 40:1. What plugs should I be running in this motor? HELP!

Could be bad carb needle/seats or too high a fuel pressure. It's been debated here before, but at least with the 2.4, you need 6 lbs fuel pressure at WOT. You'll unseat the needles if your pressure is too high. I would imagine it's the same with the 2.5. Maybe someone can help out here. I'm not familure with the Holley red (I've used blue). You may want to put a gauge in line and see what you've got.

Buy the way, stay with 3/8" line.

What DaveR said is exactly right. Check to see if the carbs are leaking from the needle and seat. Trim motor up a bit and turn on pump, see if fuel leaks out any one of the carburetors. You may need a fuel regulator, no more than 6 lbs.. After that check that your fuel enriching valve is not leaking. Float levels may be too high as well. There that will keep you busy for a while.

And it is at 5 psi just like Holley said it was. Bought a regulator and never put it in because it was unnecessary. Carbs are super easy to take apart...don't be afraid to pull them off to take a look at the needles and seats. The needles have little rubber ends that deform. If it isn't a perfect cone then it is worn and needs to be replaced. David

I ran one of these for a while. It sounds like the emulsion tubes are broken, mine was also a 1993 245 carb.Remove the bowls and check the brass tube that hangs into to the float bowl all of mine eventually broke.I had a friend at Mercury (plant 33) send me a fix kit but it's been a while.PS, those are idle air jets in the top of the carb, the open holes are for back draft jets and are not used on this model for fear of running lean in the mid range. This motor will respond much better with a little more idle timing. hf...
