They always say, once you've had black, you never go back! Well it must be true, cause I just could'nt bring myself to paint it white. Just think, this could be part of a 12-step recovery to get the OMC guys to switch to black! This is the 300GT V8 that BL needs for the Lobster boat. It's for sale for $4000 if anyone needs one. It's got a 1999 4 liter powerhead.

Buffed to a high gloss, so your girlfriend can re-apply her makeup after gettin' smoked by a Merc! Look at the "johnson" reflection on my shirt from the chrome letters.

It didn't get that cold over here. No frost and the dog's bowl didn't freeze over.

... although the dog was shivering a little bit ;) ;) ;) Must have been that cold heavy chain wrapped aound the bumper of my car :D ;) ;) We need him to scare off the transients, bums, petty thieves, drifters, homeless, drug addicts and whores that roam the streets at night here in St. Pete. Did you hear the gays just built another all gay theater just down the street! Yeah, the opening show ends with 7 gay men jumping up and down naked on stage  live! It's just south of the all-gay church

Sorry, just venting, I need to move :(

Rhummer, I 1st sandblast, then use a DA sander with 80 grit to knock down the texture. I use PPG DP 40 or DP90 epoxy primer. Then my basecoat-clearcoat. Then wetsand with 600, then clear again. Then sand and buff the cowl. BL, it's 1:00 now and it's actually snowing. What a bunch of bull. As far as the gays in St. pete, that's why I live here!

Johnny or not, thats the way they should have been done! Very nice job, looks killer. I wonder if RACEMORE has seen this....said something about how one was on his daytona before, but not knowing if he is set on twins or Mercs. I'm sure somebody here will ask....;)

Rhummer
01-24-2003, 01:42 PM
How about the lettering, where? and did you clear coat over the letters or is that the way they are made.

Thanks

CP

WILDMAN
01-24-2003, 02:11 PM
The letters are clearcoated. I get them from a lady who scans a pic of the lettering and runs them through a vinyl cutting machine. I can get them if you can't. see-ya WILDMAN

That is a way cool deal. Never seen the reflective stuff, but I knew a guy here that bought the printer machine for that, just to make boat name stickers. He made a lot of cash.

boataddict26
01-24-2003, 05:07 PM
Yea thats pretty cool!! I think it is called a silk screen machine that makes those. You scan whatever you want into it and it will copy it over to any materal..shirts, stickers, anything plastic..ext. My dad is thinking about getting one, he found a used one for a really good price.

Skip, I talked to RL today. He sold a 15 inch V8 midsection just last week. He said he'd see what he could come up with if you're serious. That would be an awesome looking combo!

Talon2.5
02-07-2003, 05:03 AM
was considering it if it was already a 20 inch, got too many projects going now to start another motor project, the 2.5's coming off to do some clamp work then cowl paint and new stickers

maybe someday in the future i'll mess with a v-8 on the talon, went looking for the thread of the one that was posted but it must be gone now

i'm suprised you still have it

that is totally a beauty of a motor i really like that big black mota!!! is it modified in any way??

WILDMAN
02-12-2003, 06:34 PM
The only thing modified, is the paint and decals! It's for sale! asking $4000

Travis Fulton
02-12-2003, 07:35 PM
wildman, just an estimate, i am going to have a motor totally painted, can you give me an estimate of what is a fair price for a professional (like you would do) paint job. i'm guessing around here (missouri) they will hit me in the $400.00 range with a good base clear but probally not rubbed but that will be a heated booth, just wanted some ideas on prices, thanx:)

WILDMAN
02-12-2003, 07:53 PM
I always take em apart. It's alot of work, but they come out like new. I also sandblast them to bare metal. That's the only way to make sure any corrosion and grease is gone. That way the paint will stay on. If they don't take it apart,{which they seldom do}, then $400 sounds about right. It's next to impossible to get paint in all the nooks and crannys and even harder to get it shiny when it's together. If you can look at it before it's sprayed, do so. If everything is'nt sand real well and epoxy primed, the paint WILL NOT stay on. Especially the lower unit. It takes me at least 25-30 hours to do them my way. I only do it to my own motors, or ones I put on for sale boats. I'd only do them for someone else if they took it apart and re-assembled it. That's the worst part of it in my opinion. I know I should quit being so anal about doing this stuff, but I can't help myself. I'm too old to stop now. Good luck, WILDMAN
