7 th annual BBQ by the Suwannee Nov. 22-24 2013

Time to plan for the annual BBQ and hoping for good weather . Lots of river riding to do followed by grilling and festivities . Below is a list of hotels that are usually used and if you have a motorhome or want to camp out you are welcome . hope these dates work for everyone ! If anyone has any suggestions let me know .

Remember this is just a BBQ and is a non-event , not a race or anything .

Please , do not dispose of cigarette butts , beer tops or any other type of trash on the ground as it will all have to be picked up by yours truly . Only throw burnable items in the fire, no bottles , cans or metal objects . Thanks !

Local hotels are as follows with the Days Inn in Chiefland with lots of boat parking and right next to BBQ Bills for breakfast . Best Western also in Chiefland just south of Holiday Inn . Then the Cadillac an old school mom and pop place with good parking just south of the bridge . Then the Park Inn right across from the Cadillac , another smaller mom and pop motel , then the Suwanee Gables just over the bridge across the river on the right on the water with a boat ramp .

Spear , no "real " (only 89 octane ) gas on the water , fill up and bring 10 gals and you can go anywhere . As it gets closer we'll see what we need , hope for good river conditions !

Turned all information into to Attorney this week in Tallahassee, let the games begin. Didn't want it to go this far but after getting the inspection report from the Marine Engineer I felt I have no choice.

Jason and I will probably be heading out there in our 24 Skater. Is the 24 too much boat for this water? Seems like that river is getting pretty shallow.:confused: What is the longest distance we will be running? Trying to figure out the logistics for fuel. I have two 50gal tanks which I'm hoping will be plenty for the weekend.

That Bacon thing looks freaking amazing.:eek: I'm about to order a 1/2 of one online for $20. Beats spending hours smoking it and preparing it.

I can bring a calibrated Radar gun if needed:cool:.

This community is so great when we got back to Foley's that evening I needed to clear all the mud/sand out of the cooling system. Foley cleared his MAN CAVE and we pulled it inside I didn't even get a chance to get my pussy ass hands dirty and the crew was already assholes and elbows into it and I could'nt even get close before it was back together.
I'll be back this trip with our new 21 w/280's this time I may follow someone in the know but I doubt it, my ego will probably have me jumping out front again. I don't follow very well!!!

Tony and I are booked at Suwannee Gables! They said they have a marina to keep the boats in the water, as well as a boat ramp on premises to drop in and pull out (the boat) with ease. What time do the festivities start on that Friday?

That bein said my rowdy friends like it and I do too but if ur bringing the wife I would call back and ask if u can do an inspection of the room and facilities before u commit fully . Like I said I love the place but won't get the ol lady back there she likes the days inn cleaner .

Hope its not that bad. The wife and I looked at it on line and thought it was nice. And having never been the that's all we had to go on. Cant be any ruffer that Blair's jungle den on the st. Johns in astor. Now that place is RUFF! She a good sport so shoud be fine I hope.

Gables is a blast. Ramp on site and after we partied at foleys all night we were hangin out by the fire burning broken trees and parts of the dock. Then we started grilling burgers at 430am standing in the bed of the truck :thumbsup: Great times, less weight= even better :D

You were towing me at 40 mph in my quartershot back to the ramp 25 miles after I windowed my 225 promax at 108 mph when you hit that shoal. I damn near ran into the back of your skater but I turned the wheel in nic of time. Man I my right side sponson missed your port engine by two inches. I'll never forget it I thought it was all over:eek::p Bernard stoped and helped push us/your boat into deeper water

Glad you are coming Casey , some of the Drag Racing Posse will be there for sure . It seems like friday is a ride south to the gulf with a stop about 1/2 way at Jacks sandbar . Saturday usually is a ride north to the Santa Fe river split where there is an area where a bunch of boats can pull over and hang for a while . Launching is usually at Fanning Springs ramp or Clay Landing ramp just west of Chiefland . The Days Inn in Chiefland seems to be "Race Headquarters " and my place is about 3 miles north of it on 19 , easy ride . I'll give you a call later .

If anyone is interested, I would like to do a marathon run on Friday. Launch at Fanning Springs and head south to the Gulf. Back to the ramp and refuel then head north to the split then back to Jacks Sandbar. Should be about a 150 mile run.
If we launch late morning we could be at the sandbar in time for the afternoon group and cocktails.
If your skeered, its ok :D

It's perfect right now , ran 60 miles yesterday and you ALWAYS have to be aware of the Hart Springs Sandbar to the north and Jacks Sandbar to the South . Will post a couple pics later , heading in to the MURKY Sandbar north of Anclote now in the Mako .

I remember the strandings last year at jacks. Skater I think drove right up on it. They got out and were ankle deep and I watched Rasta try and and drive up next to them to see if they needed help. :nonod:

After you pass Yellow Jacket Campground on the right headed south you stay to the right 100 ft of river for the next two bends and you will not hit Jacks sandbar that will be on your left with trees showing out of the water some . Going North after you pass the Powerlines and the new boat ramp on the right being built , then the large boats parked on the right , you stay to the center and left side of the river heading north and you will miss the Hart Springs sandbar .

We are trying to get a local Pasco county band , Wiley Fox , to attend if possible depending on schedule and price . Only change so far is no band but of course there will be music . Be prepared for long boat rides with no available premium fuel so plan accordingly if you want to make the full runs which are usually 70 - 80 miles or so round trip . Of course you can just ride around any where / way you want , lots of water ! See you there .
